In the process of searching for news from Cuba, I came across an article in the Free Press you might be interested in reading. It’s an interview with Norman Birnbaum, a man with quite a resume, including service as an advisor to JFK’s Presidential Campaign. Frankly, I’m so angry I am barely able to type.
This is the offending paragraph, emphasis are mine.

(We have not attacked Castro because of mutual assured deterrence, his air force could attack nuclear power plants and make much of the US southeast uninhabitable so despite the truly repellent Miami Cubans of the older generation and their gallant allies, the Israel lobby, Castro hangs on). I do not think that the war was caused entirely or primarily by the Israel lobby but certainly Feith, who used to practice law in Jerusalem and may have had or have dual citizenship, Wolfowitz, Libby et al. helped as did the institutes in Washington fronting for Israel with their carefully crafted “analysis.” The Israel lobby was effective but it successfully instrumentalized American imperialism: but that imperialism would be there in any case.

Norman Birnbaum sounds like a typical Castro loving leftist spewing the same tire old screed. All I can say is, Norman, tell me something I haven’t heard from every Bush hater in America.

For 45 years the Democratic Party and their allies in the press have tried to deify JFK. The myth of the dynamic young leader cut down in his prime has been the central theme in the leftist fairy tale belief system. JFK was a charismatic incompetent who betrayed the best interests of the United States and in passing the Cuban people for political gain. In both the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban missle crisis, the Kennedy administration threw away chances to get rid of Castro. It was more important to them to pander to the left academic elite than to promote freedom.
Today, the United States State Department bureaucracy remains indifferent to Marxist tyranny. Presidents come and go but the FDR/JFK left still prevents any effective stand against Stalinist-Castroite regimes. Only a Reagan could go over their heads and stand up to those who’d destroy us. Reagan, naturally, went after the Soviet Union as the most dangerous enemy.
Birnbaum is long gone but his heirs still rule in the back rooms of the bureaucracy. Only a comprehensive reform of the “civil service” can remove this toxin from Washington.
