WaPo Review of “Take me with you”
We've been talking about Carlos Frias' book entitled "Take me with you" for some time. You'll remember that Frias wrote a multi-part story for the Palm Beach Post where he is employed as a sports writer. When fidel castro became ill in July of 2006 the paper asked him to go to Cuba, where he had never been to file the reports. He entered the country as a tourist but his objective was to retrace the footsteps of his parents and document the experience.
I recently read the book and intend to write about it soon. In the meantime there's this review from the Washington Post (Third review down). The best thing I can say about the review is that it's apolitical.

Henry:
Perhaps it is my suspicious nature but at least one of the Frias who lived "Sierra Adentro" near Manzanillo were rebel officers, see for example:
EL 'COMANDANTE DE LA REVOLUCION' GUILLERMO GARCIA FRIAS Y LOS GALLOS FINOS

Anyway I bought the book
and then my mind follows the thread
to Leopoldo Cintra Frías
Hello all,
I told Henry the same thing I'm going to write here: As far as I know, I'm not related to these Friases. That said, I'm sure if you trace every Frias on the island back, there's a common ancestor. But the fact that my father's family was imprisoned and forced into exile means we're probably not 'primos hermanos' with these butchers.
Anyway, thanks for the privilege to post.
And don't worry, Larry. I won't automatically assume that you are kin with the democratic mayor from Chicago Richrd Daley, brother to the CFO of Proctor and Gamble Clayton Daley, in-laws with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce William Daley, or cousin to the golfer John Daley.
But in case I'm wrong, can you get me tickets to the Masters?
I don't think Larry was trying to impugn you or your family. There's a lot of former rebels that thought they were on the side of the angels, right Larry?
