Change we can believe in?

As the old adage goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Riding in on a white horse named Change, President Obama promised to deliver us from evil (Republicans). It was those Republicans and them alone, President Obama and his supporters told us, who got us into this financial mess and only he, the anointed one, the metempsychosis of the days of Kennedy and Camelot, could rescue us from the abominable abyss.

It was the hallowed President Obama who told us that Tim Geithner, the admitted tax cheat, was the only man in this entire country who could head the Treasury Department and lead us out of the dark shadows of impending doom. Things would change, President Obama told us. And we're still waiting.

That tumble you see, my friends, is the reaction of Wall Street today to the bailout plan unveiled by the only man in America who can run the Treasury Department. Not much of a change from a couple of months ago. Nevertheless, I can already hear the liberals screaming how President Obama inherited this mess from Bush and he cannot be blamed for this.

There is no need to scream, my liberal friends, I know that nothing, ever, is a Democrat's fault. As a Cuban I am used to seeing political hacks justify their own incompetence by blaming others--it happens in Cuba all the time. I am also quite used to the ever-changing and ever-evolving shifts in blame and reasoning whenever it is convenient. Save yourself the time and effort to twist and contort yourself into a pretzel trying to convince me--and yourself--that Democrats are not a bunch of political hacks trying to consolidate their power. Straighten up and fly straight, you'll feel much better.

Take all that bottled-up hatred you have inside and use that energy instead to tell us dumb conservatives just when this change is coming. I would really like to know.
