Amateur Hour at the Apollo White House
Like a group of kindergartners left alone in the control room of a nuclear power plant, the Obama administration continues to push buttons it should not push, flip switches that do not need flipping, and stare wondrously at the flashing warning lights. As if the economy was not keeping them busy enough, they have now turned their scattered attention to our national security. Unaware of how these things are negotiated, they have for all intents and purposes handed our collective butts over to Putin and the Russians.
Obama 'ready to drop shield plans for Russian help on Iran'
MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - Washington has told Moscow that Russian help in resolving Iran's nuclear program would make its missile shield plans for Europe unnecessary, a Russian daily said on Monday, citing White House sources.U.S. President Barack Obama made the proposal on Iran in a letter to his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, Kommersant said, referring to unidentified U.S. officials.
Of course the left will shriek that this is how diplomacy is carried out. But the problem is the Russians don't care much for diplomacy. You don't negotiate with the Russians using soft, kind, helpful words--you negotiate with the Russians carrying a big stick in your hand. It's how they do business--it's the only way they know how to do business. Our Commander-in-Chief, however, is trying to play nice and he is hoping to slay the aggressive and hungry bear with lovely words and kind reasoning. Good luck with that, Mr. President.
I'd be laughing if this whole thing wasn't so damn scary! Somebody, please, get those kids away from the control panel.

"@ the Apollo" RFLMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The DEMs are a bunch of sniveling cowards who will never, ever truly defend this country. So, they'll give away our defense against current and future enemies in the vain hope that our current enemy (Iran) will actually pay attention to the Russians (a potential future adversary) - incredibly irresponsible. Well, I guess Obama needs that money to pay for all their irresponsible handouts - get used to it.
We survived the Cold War and 19 years so far without the European missile defense shield. Sounds like a good diplomatic opportunity of "something for nothing" to me - we don't do something (which we don't need anyway), you (Russia) DO do something that is a major positive change in policy.
Next they'll want to give the Canal Zone back to Panama!
"We survived the Cold War and 19 years so far without the European missile defense shield."
Eddy:
You are kidding, right? I mean, you have to be because you couldn't seriously equate the threat that Putin's Russia is today to the years of disarray after the fall of USSR. And the reason we survived the cold war was because of this little detail known as mutual destruction, not "let's play nice and talk this out."
You have to be joking, so I will take it as such.
And Lazaro, Panama will have to talk to China if they want the canal that runs through their country.
Eddy, Eddy, Eddy. Please, I beg of you. Go to your local poison control center: You've OD'ed on the Kool-Aid.
Tongue in cheek. This is Carter Act 2.
Krushchev promised "we will bury you!" and Putin will deliver on the promise.
No one's asking the US to give up its nukes (at least I'm not), so mutually assured destruction is still there as our main defense against nukes. We have technology to shoot down a lot of missles anyway; this plan was always just a fancy and expensive way of buying off Eastern European countries' cooperation with military support. I thought we were against spending taxpayer money to help foreign countries?
Eddy, it's that type of logic that keeps used-car salesmen in business. Whether we build a missile defense shield or not is irrelevant; the point is to keep the Russians thinking we can and we will build one. The Star Wars missile defense system never existed, but we sure as hell convinced the USSR it did and it led to their ruin.
When you negotiate, you don't check the only viable bargaining chip you have at the door. You carry it in with you, place it on the table, and let your counterpart take a good, hard look at it. Without a threat, the Russians will walk all over the US. By dropping the missile defense shield as his first move, Obama just left himself, and our country, empty handed at the bargaining table.
I'm not saying you can't use it as a negotiating tool, but just like you don't go "all in" on the first hand of poker, you don't give up your best bargaining chip on the first round of negotiations. Especially when the negotiations aren't scheduled to start for another month. It's senseless, it's stupid, and a mistake only an amateur would make.
Eddy why do you come here to troll??...go back to Daily Kos, Granma, Huffington Post, Move On, Dem Underground, or whatever rock you crawled out of.
Are you a moron?
Read the history of Germany w/ Helmut Kohl in the '80's and Reagan, regarding the SS 18's...have you ever heard of Star Wars???
Do you have any clue whatsoever regarding military technology????
The Poles and the Czech are our TRUE allies and that is why Barry Hussein is throwing them under the bus, to appease Vlad the Impaler and the Mullahs
Put it this way, had MaObama been the Prez in 1980, there'd still be a Soviet Union.
