Marco Rubio
Marco Rubio, former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, is currently testing the waters for the Senate race and this morning is launching a new site asking folks to stand with him as he considers the run.
I will be supporting Marco Rubio in this election.
At 35, he was the youngest and first Cuban-American elected to Speaker of the Florida House. He did so by championing a conservative, commonsense and smaller government approach. He’s also a devoted husband and a family man with four children.
Here are some highlights about him:
* Rubio is best known for his book “100 Innovative Ideas for Florida’s Future.” These ideas came from “idearaisers” he hosted across the state.
* This caught the attention of former Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is on the record as saying that Rubio “will emerge as a national leader.”
* His time as Speaker, which lasted from 2006-2008, is marked by his initiative to overhaul the Florida tax system.
* Rubio was also successful in creating a world-class public school curriculum and passing legislation designed to address the social-economic factors that lead to academic under-performance.
* Here is a link to a profile of him by the St. Petersburg Times.
* He has no problem publicly blasting the big-spenders in Washington. At a recent Lincoln Day Dinner, Rubio bashed those who promote that only government can solve our economic problems: “I wish that President Obama was right that through laws and spending, we can restore and keep for the next generation what was given to us, I wish that was true.” Rubio went on to say, “Why would we ever implement the economic policies of places that people jump fences to get away from?”
Take a stand with Marco Rubio, right here.

“Why would we ever implement the economic policies of places that people jump fences to get away from?”
Well, that happens when you have a Marxist in charge of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
He's a nice guy and very bright, but he's got a slim chance to carry the state especially outside Miami-Dade County....
Mel won the state mainly because of his national credentials. Marco is still a local guy. Even as speaker, he wasn't as visible in your face type of politician that immediately garnered state wide name recognition. Maybe I'm wrong, but you need someone with name recognition, like perhaps Connie Mack (now a Congressman) ... just my 2 1/2 cents ....
mack wont run and Sink was the one that had the best shot. if Marco gets some name recognition up and down the I4 corridor, he has a good chance of winning.
I just don't want to give up a seat to another dem. that would be tragic
Excuse my Cajun two-cents into this issue:
But genuine "anglo" friends of mine in Miami (mostly in-laws, etc.) keep telling me the stuff that OBSESSES us--not only falls short of Tallahassee--it doesn't even make it into Broward!
I don't live down there. So you guys know better. But I suspect (sadly) that Cigagarmike is right)-- for the moment.
From all I've seen, Rubio absolutely KICKS ASS!!, But it would seem he's gotta get some ('gun-totin, catfish-'fryin) crackers behind him before he replaces Mel.
Alicia Alonso, the hideous crone who sold her soul to Castro, Inc. so she could be a diva for life, has always lived like a queen, surrounded by all manner of luxury items, many of which she purchased "under the table" from well-to-do Havana residents who were leaving the country. I'm talking things like crystal chandeliers, expensive porcelain items, very upscale bed and table linens and so forth. I know someone who acted as intermediary for such transactions. Marie Antoinette doesn't have a thing on the ugly bitch. But yeah, sure, she's a champion of the poor and downtrodden masses. In a pig's eye.

Making it up here into Broward is overrated: it says nothing about how someone will play statewide. I worked with Marco when I worked for the House, and I can't say enough good stuff about him. He's certainly known (if universally loved) in Tallahassee. He's got a good shot, especially since I expect an all-Dade race anyway, between him and either Dan Gelber or Kendrick Meek.
