Unfortunately, almost everything in Cuba, at every level, involves acting of one kind or another. Most of it is extremely bad theater, but the show goes on.
I'm no great fan of performance art but it was very heartening to see artists from around the Americas speaking truth to power in Havana. I know, it's just one day and if Cuban artists were to attempt this on their own, without the full glare of the Biennal, they would be hauled off to jail. But given the sad history that is free expression in Fidel's Cuba, I very much enjoyed watching that video last night.
