Wear a Che T-Shirt–Go to jail! (In Poland, perhaps)

As a typically idealistic and starry-eyed U.S. citizen these European bannings of free speech trouble me. But I just love the intellectual consistency of this one:

Fontova, although our constitucion includes "hate speech" as a right that we are allow to express and use,in my opinion all rules and rights have exceptions, and the prohibition of hate material and speech based on ideologies like fascism, communism, totalitarianism should be banned in this country.

I believe Poland is doing the right thing.Good for them.

  • I have to agree with Humberto on this one. Ideologically, I think this is great. But overall, I've always been deeply troubled with these infringements on speech. Hate speech or not, I don't believe in banning peoples abilities to have different ideas and express such different ideas.

I wholeheartedly, as amusing at this banning is, cannot support it.

I agree with Mr. Fontova & Ventanita. If they ban this today, who's to say they can't ban something else tomorrow. They're doing the same thing that swine and his friends did in Cuba. Also, when you prohibit something, in this case an image of someone, you are asking for trouble being stirred in every direction and the last thing anyone needs is some coalition somewhere starting a free speech movement using that swine's image. That would only further the false ideals they've already tagged that image with.

I believe that "people expressing differents ideas" is one thing, and another is "people expressing ideas of hate" based in ideologies already proven to be against human life and in favor of genocide.

Doesn't make sense to put "different ideas" at the same level as "hate ideas",and knowing what the last ones have brought to some countries like Cuba, and some continents like Europe.

  • [...] to ban Che? Well, his image anyway! No, I do not agree at all with such a law. Yes Che was a sorry S.O.B., a murderer, and no one with [...]

funny, yet messed up at the same time. Jail time for wearing a shirt is extreme, I don't care what's on it.

  • Felixthe3rd

banning it only makes it more popular.
