Greed Fuels Clamor for Lifting Restrictions on Cuba
I fantasize that one day, I'll open the paper and read that headline. It is, after all, essentially the case. Aside from idealogues, the greatest chearleaders for ending the embargo and attendant travel restrictions, are almost invariably ranchers, farmers, wouldbe investors. The latest entity- doubtless fueled by the desire to democratize Cuba one tourist at a time- to enter the lists is none other than Orbitz. Yup, of Orbitz.com fame. Seems they wanted to throw their weight behind a social cause and apparently decided that bailing out a totalitarian dictatorship while lining their pockets fit the bill better than, say, ending world hunger.
It would seem that some sort of campaign of our own might be called for. Suggestions? Read the Seattle Times article about their orchestrated campaign here, complete with link to online petition. Funny how the left and castro fellow travelers always refer to Cuba being a playground for the Americans before the revolution - and thus the need for revolution - and now they bust their humps to get Cuba to become a playground for Americans.
So ironic it makes your head spin.
You should the L.A. Times article on how Republicans in Alabama are trying to lift the embargo to increase their shipping business. Disgusting to say the least. These people have no care in the world for the enslaved Cubans, but only to make a profit.

One of the big lessons from the Cuban disaster is that, if you screw yourself over, and you're not the super fashionable PC cause du jour, you shouldn't expect strangers to come get you out the hole. Yeah, it would be nice if they did, but real life doesn't work that way. Cubans have been counting on the kindness of strangers far too much for far too long. It ain't gonna happen. We're NOT talking South Africa here.
If these US companies want to do business by giving Cuba CREDIT, won't it come back and hit them in the.....?
