Operation Pedro Pan – Herald Looks Back

The Miami Herald has special coverage of Operation Pedro Pan in today's online and print versions.

Check it out here.

The articles and columns are good from what I could peruse. I'm perfectly aware of the Herald's frequently-biased and flawed coverage of Cuba-related news. But let's also give credit when credit is due. No other MSM outlet would bother to do something like this. Sure, it's Miami. But wouldn't it be nice if other media around the country and world would pick up on this?

Given the Herald's track record, I am not surprised that they omitted mention of Yale Professor Carlos Eire, whose award-winning book, "Waiting for Snow in Havana," chronicles his life as a Pedro Pan refugee.

The Herald burned its bridges long ago. For any business to antagonize a large number of actual or potential customers, repeatedly and persistently, would seem to be lunacy, but I don't think those in charge of the Herald are either crazy or stupid. I think they're arrogant, presumptuous, resentful and very afraid of looking "bad" or "weak" to their leftist "liberal" MSM colleagues. Trouble is, you can't operate like the Boston Globe with a Miami customer base. At this stage, even if the Herald gave me Carl Hiaasen's head on a platter, it would be too little, too late.
