It's unvelievable how the killer of La Cabaña is idolized here in Brazil. Then again, people elected Lula here, so...

It's not unbelievable at all that "Che" is idolized in Brazil. It's part of the LAD syndrome (Latin American Disease). It's an entrenched, endemic condition. How much of it is due to stupidity and how much to being lousy human beings is debatable, but the disease itself is indisputable.

Alas, Yes publisher had all-expense paid trip to Rio for Shirley and me. We were seriously pumped. (actually I was. Shirley feared a set-up, complete with kidnapping by FARC, etc.)

At any rate, we had our plane tickets and everyTHANG ready--but the Brazilian consulate didn't issue our visas in time!

So I had no choice but to go fishing this week-end!
