A suggestion for the Republican Party
Don't insult our intelligence by pretending you're different from the Democrats:
Dear [name withheld]
Thank you for contacting me regarding the American Clean Energy and Security Act. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to take this opportunity to respond to your concerns.
On May 15, 2009, Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) introduced the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2454). This bill would create an absolute cap on total emissions from all covered entities including the electric power, transportation, oil and gas industry, and other commercial sectors with the goal of reducing greenhouse gases. This cap would be lowered over time through 2050, and a government-created market would be established to sell and trade emission allowances. On June 26, 2009, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2454 by a vote of 219-212. H.R. 2454 now awaits further consideration in the Senate.
I believe that the threat of climate change is real, and I am working with my colleagues in the Senate to regulate and reduce greenhouse emissions. As we consider climate change legislation, we need to ensure that the laws we pass will in fact reduce carbon emissions and lessen the threat of catastrophic climate change. Additionally, we need to consider and attempt to mitigate any negative effects the new laws would have on our economy, energy prices, and Americans living on fixed incomes.
The United States cannot solve this problem alone, and similar efforts in China and India are critical to combating this threat. However, our country can provide needed leadership and technological innovation for the international community, and, as one of the world's largest energy consumers, it is time for the United States to accept this responsibility. The choices we make now in dealing with climate change may be some of the most significant environmental and economic decisions of our generation. I assure you that I am committed to passing legislation to counter the threat posed by global climate change, and I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind should H.R. 2454, or any related legislation, receive the attention of the full Senate.
Again, thank you for contacting me. If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. In addition, for more information about issues and activities important to Florida, please sign up for my weekly newsletter at http://martinez.senate.gov.

Mel Martinez

Bastard.
caballerodeparis...
just to be clear one your meaning....Who might the Bastard be?
This is my first post on Babalu Blog but I have been a "viewer" now for about 3 years. I just fired off a letter to Mr. Martinez. I had read his book and was inspired by his story but his actions and views are baffling me.
Here is my letter:
Mr. Martinez,
I just read your letter that gets sent out from your office when responding to cap & trade on Babalu Blog.
This bill amounts to nothing more than another tax on us. Climate change is indeed real but never in history has climate not changed...and it is not man made. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, trees need this in order to produce oxygen that we obviously need.
Al Gore has presented the theory of 'global warming' based on carbon emissions and such but since 1998, the trend is that the earth is cooling. Gore yelled at us and said the earth "has a fever!" but science is proving this wrong. The earth had warmed since the end of the "little ice age" 200 years ago but we have not had cars and industry that whole time and now it is cooling, coinciding with some of the least sun activity we have had since it has been measured...and that is definitely not man made.
We can't tax the weather to be where it is supposed to be, and NO ONE has said what the ideal temperature should be in the first place. Cold weather kills more people per year than does hot weather. If this is about saving lives, then we need the warming. But since the earth does not have a fever, every bit of Gore's theory does not hold a bit of water.
Please do not vote for another tax forced on us. It is inexcusable of this bill gets through. And do not support Crist over Rubio. We do not need Crist's "experience" in DC, we need Rubio's conservatism!
Personally, I want to thank you for sending me the signed postcard and responding to my email about your book. Your story continues to inspire me and I see parallels with the events in Honduras where the brave Hondurans are fighting against a rogue leader in the mold of Castro, Chavez and Ortega. We need to eradicate every vestige of socialism, starting now with the US.
Thank you,

I have yet to receive any response from any elected official that I've written to that contained any viewpoint contrary to CNN, CBS, etc, etc, etc. And, IMO that is one big reason why Obama is in the White House, and we are f**ked.
Ziva - Which elected officials did you write to?
Colena, I have spent endless hours doing emails to our elected officials. I would be happy to send you a list, but hackers using a .cu email address wiped out my email a few months ago. Why do you ask?
I would like to write to them as well. They probably wont answer me either but its worth a try. I can also try to send emails to the officials in my state.
I would like to send them emails as well. They probably wont answer me back but its worth a try. I could also write to officials in my state. Some of them might answer back.
sorry it posted twice.
I dont get along with computers. I didnt think it posted it the first time so i rewrote it over.

Martinez is simply an example of people who want to have it both ways and think they actually can. In other words, he's neither hot nor cold, but merely lukewarm.
