Update on Darsi Ferrer situation

This just in, sorry it’s in Spanish, I’m working on getting it translated:

  1. Imprisoned human rights activist Dr. Darsie Ferrer.

    By Jaime Leygonier.

In Havana on July 21, 2009, officers in police uniform and green olive arrested at his home to Dr. Darsie Ferrer and Ramirez drove him to the prison of Valle Grande, where the next day gave his wife see him a few minutes.

His wife, Yusnaimy Jorge Soca, relates: “Darsie refuses to take food, feel great headache, as the rape and stripped for refusing to train, a guard threatened to” pass by somatón “when I leave, what I play that beat him or any other brutality. Once in detention he was beaten inside the police unit of eight officers to be handcuffed my husband. Now do not explain the cause of his incarceration, but we all know that is a punishment for his work to promote human rights and the public campaign “The ride of your dreams,” which calls for personal fulfillment.

Dr. Ferrer as director of the Center for Health and Human Rights “Juan Bruno Zayas” takes years to work as a serious social and political eye of the catastrophic state of Cuban health care, the sub-villages of poverty and marginalization of the Cuban homeland on their own with two currencies, the prohibition of hotel services and hospitals – are reserved for foreign leaders – and persecution of Cubans from other provinces seeking to live in Havana: Situation as Cuban and international law qualifies as a crime of Apartheid.

The doctor is known for the peaceful march of December 10 that he called three years in a row before the Havana headquarters of UNESCO and which are suppressed crowd and mass arrests by police and paramilitary regime.

Its report, “Torture, systematic method of punishment in Cuba” (9/1/2006) based opponents with 14 cases of detainees and the conditions of captivity in Cuba shortly cause the loss of physical and mental torture and classified as – according to violate international conventions.

With meager resources, the Health Center took medication (received GAD) and donations of clothing to residents in the state shelters, known as slums and “put-and-reach” by the poor conditions they are in, where who crowded the State lost its roof.

Repeatedly agents of State Security arrested him without cause, threatened to put a prisoner unless he abandoned his work, raided his home to confiscate papers, books, computer.

On July 9 he was arrested along with his sick wife Yusnaimy Jorge Soca, fractured the door of his home and ripped the aluminum windows, leaving the family apartment and exposed to rain and thieves. Also “confiscated” two bags of cement.

The doctor fix your tiny and dilapidated apartment served as a pretext for that attack, and ask where he bought the materials. Desperate for – hiding the real motive – to kill that off the prison.

Dr. Ferrer said that the police bought the materials to the military prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel González Peña-neighbor in the same street where he claimed in vain the doctor notorious for repair of his large house as a mansion and selling quarter to half .

Now Dr. Ferrer suffer systematic torture in the penal system itself with so many Cuban prisoners of conscience and common whose freedom he fought and humane treatment.

The stream of emboldening the regime and the wave of repression that Ferrer predicted as a result of leaving Raúl Castro and a strengthened European policy of legitimacy and the sacrifice of 2003 prisoners of conscience and the rights of the Cuban people.

“I threatened to imprison and throw away the key. I do not know how I am still left in the street “- he said. Now the ultimate wrath of state when she invited everyone to walk peacefully on the boardwalk in Havana “with a dream of every one.”

Never mind the legal arguments used by the regime to keep incarcerated for a government that is outside the rule of law that is not important, no real cause can justify the imprisonment of Darsie Ferrer. There is only one, fear of the authorities to his civic activism, which holds the leadership within the ranks of dissidents and the principal, his indomitable will to see his homeland free and at peace, this is what the system can not forgive and it keeps it locked.
