I heart Glenn

Of all the talk radio guys I can hear in Philly (Rush, Sean, Glenn, Savage) I love Glenn the best.  He's dead-on for just about everything, he's funny as hell, and he doesn't take himself too seriously.  He's flawed and he admits it but he is never boring and that's why I listen to him.

He also has a tv show on FOX, having switched over from CNN (can't figure out why they would have wanted him there in the first place) and because of him exercising what liberals have been doing vociferously for the past 8 years, his freedom of speech, his show has lost 33 advertisers as of today.

His "faux-pas?"  He called Obama a racist.  (Gasp!)  Colorofchange.org orchestrated this boycott among his advertisers.  Glenn actually wasn't even on his tv show, but another FOX show about 3 weeks ago, when he  said Obama had "a deep-seated hatred for white people."

Colorofchange.org got to work right away, targeting Glenn and, according to its director, James Rucker, making him a "liability" to FOX.  This punishes Glenn for expressing his opinion, to which he is entitled, and which is shared by more than a few people in this country.

From their website:

"Fox's Glenn Beck recently said President Obama is "a racist" and has a "deep-seated hatred for white people." Beck is on a campaign to convince the American public that President Obama's agenda is about serving the needs of Black communities at White people's expense. It's repulsive, divisive and shouldn't be on the air."

Referring to Glenn, Rucker said:

"They have a toxic asset," Rucker said. "They can either clean it up or get rid of it."

Glenn? Toxic?  Wow, Rucker better never listen to Michael Savage, then.

Out of sixty companies they contacted, 33 pulled their ads.  I'd like to get the names of all of them and request that they reconsider their decision or ask them to stick by his show, just on the principle of free speech.  I also would like to ask them if they pulled their ads everytime someone called President Bush an idiot, a baby-killer, etc.  They may have believed those words to be true just like Glenn does, right?  So what's the dif?

Here is the link to the story.

P.S. Do any of you Cubans know how to say "Give me a break" in the Cuban vernacular?

Claudia, I love, love, love, Glenn too! His show is my back-home commute companion every single day and I receive his show email newsletter every day too. His book "An inconvenient book" is superb! The new one, "Uncommon Sense" is really good too.

Heard about the boycott last week; when all those stupids realized they will be lossing the target audience of one of the TV shows that is pulling the larger numbers of rating every day, they will be sorry.

For that, in a very vernacular Cuban, I would tell them all: "No me jodan" and "Comemierdas", with as many exclamation marks as you can possibly fit in the line.

  • Davidb1

I actually like Mark Levin the best. Levin, IMO, far surpasses Beck. You should actually listen to Levin sometime. Have you read his book Liberty and Tyranny? His website is here: http://www.marklevinshow.com

  • Jerome

It's another case of liberals taking things to the heart! Hot Air debunked most of the stories about advertisers being pulled from his show.

  • Odyfabregas1

Claudia: You might want to go here and write to all of the merchants that you patronize, as I did last week.

    http://defendglenn.com/advertisers.php

Only UPS has responded, thus far.

  • I agree with davidb1; Glen is alright, but not nearly as knowledgeable and articulate as Mark Levin.

  • Cubanita

I've never heard Levin's show, but I am actually reading "Liberty and Tiranny" now and that book is a revelation, way beyond excellent!

Probably there is a difference in the communication styles between them'I'd bet I'd like Levin's show too if I have a chance to listen to it, but Glenn is really fun.

  • I like the Great One, too, but Glenn has made me cry laughing, and I need that!

Jerome- the info I got was from today via AP. The link you sent was from August 19th so maybe it has been updated. Either way, it stinks!

  • Honey

    Claudia,
As you know I love Rush the best. I love Glenn Beck and lots of others like Prager, but Rush is still number one for me.

The double standard of the left knows no bounds, as you point out.
    Here's some more:
Ted Kennedy wants the law changed in Massachusetts. Currently a replacement senator has to be voted for. That was a law passed by a dem state house when they didn't want Romney to be able to appoint a rep for senate. Now that it is a dem governor, well...you know.

Charlie Gibson when he interviewed Obama, it was all sweetness and light. What is your favorite ice cream flavor and such. And when he got Palin, it was all down his nose over his glasses snooty superiority and a hatchet job.
Well, he's up to his old tricks. No matter how outrageous Cindy Sheehan was in her insults, odd behavior and boycotts to Bush, that was a brave woman doing what she felt she had to do and good for her. Now that it is Sheehan going to picket Obama at Martha's Vinyard, it's "We can all sympathize with her loss, but enough is enough."
And we all know the difference in reactions when it's their guy going on vacation. "He's so cool."

  • Jerome

True, but I believe Color of Change is distorting facts based on the link I sent you. If CoC (no pun intended) is telling us one thing, and the companies tell us something else, then something's fishy.

I doubt this will affect Glenn Beck. Most people know organizations like Color of Change are just trying to get their name out there and nothing else.

  • "P.S. Do any of you Cubans know how to say "Give me a break" in the Cuban vernacular?"

    Yes, amiga:

    NO JODAN!!!

  • You know, I fully support Color of Change's right to call on a boycott of Glenn Beck's program by its advertisers. It is their right as Americans to do so. But keep in mind that they are not the only ones with that right.

Let's see that list of advertisers that canceled their ads and then we can start a boycott of our own. If they are not comfortable with Beck expressing his point of view, then perhaps those who share that point of view aren't comfortable buying their products.

Bring on the list, Color of Change. If you want to make Fox and Glenn Beck pay for what they say and do, we in turn can make the advertisers who you scared into dropping their advertising on his show pay, too.

Is America a great country or what?

  • I agree with Alberto that they have a right to boycott and that those who don't like the boycott can return the favor. As far as the veracity of Beck's comment, I can't say I agree with his categorization of Obama. Racist isn't a term you throw around freely without real meaning behind it. especially when it's the president who's on the receiving end of the phrase.

Beck is alright, but I agree with Davidb1 that "The Great One" is heads and shoulders above when it comes to pure intellect.

  • When these wankers boycott something, it's cool. When we boycott something like Juanes, then we're lunatics.

May the pee of 1000 mutts find its way into their eyes.

  • caballerodeparis1

Beck is a cancer on political discourse in this country. When I want to laugh, I listen to Alvarez Guedes not that loon. While I doubt the effectiveness of boycotts generally--Beck will soon be crying on live TV and become a martyr--I'm glad to see that people have organized to hit him where it hurts.

  • Gigi

Ditto, CMike. More of the same old lib double standard.

I just fired an email to the Fox News suits in support of Glenn. This 1st Amendment thing cuts both ways, dudes.

  • Gigi

"Beck is a cancer on political discourse...." You can't b serious! Look in the mirror lately?

"...to hit him where it hurts" - mijo, Glenn can probably retire YESTERDAY without having to make any more money. Eat your heart out.

  • caballerodeparis1

Why is it that you guys are so obsessed with what liberals do or don't do? Boycotting Orbitz for shamlessly trying to lift travel sanctions against Cuba to make more money is the right thing to do. Exposing the fallacy of Juanes' Concert for Peace is the right thing to do. Calling attention to Urban Outfitters making a profit while selling images of a man responsible for thousands of deaths in Cuba is the right thing.

  • caballerodeparis1

    Gigi, are you Beck's mother?

  • Caballero- Do you listen to Glenn often? It would seem so, if you can opine in such a way. But I respect your right to opine, and you have done so. Thanks.

  • caballerodeparis1

    Claudia,

I actually reserved judgement on Beck until I listened to him. After I listen to one show, I knew that he belonged in the category of hysterical, political partisans who make their daily bread by getting people to believe that the world is going to pot and only the people who follow his line of thinking can set things right again. I don't waste my time on those people and I think they (together with gerrymandered districts that protect incumbency at all costs) are bad for America. We need more civil debate in this country, not less. Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, and the lesser known partisans of the left (Garafolo, the WBAI crowd here in NYC) do little to promote civil discourse and I dont want any part of them. There are a million more interesting things to read and listen to--beginning with Alvarez Guedes.

  • Cab, one of the few things we can agree on is Alvarez Guedes. I downloaded his stuff into my ipod. Priceless!

"Me voy pa'l Carajo!" means "I'm really leaving!"

  • Gigi

"... are you Beck's mother" --- way to go, way to elevate the "discourse in this country."

The answer is no, and NO, I don't engage witless and braindead posters either.

  • caballerodeparis1

Gigi, I owe you an apology. The whole "look in the mirror" business threw me for a loop. It sounded like you were being insulting and childish but maybe I was wrong.

Mike, I have been hearing the damn plomero and loro skit for longer than I care to admit and I still laugh every time. The man is the Cuban Richard Pryor.

  • Gigi

Apology is accepted, it's what caballeros do. Colada is on the house.

Anyone who is alive and seeing what is going on in this country now who is not an hysterical political partisan for the right is brain dead.

  • caballerodeparis1

Honey, that reminds me of the bumper sticker my buddy had on his car during the Bush years which read; "If you aren't outraged by what's going on, you haven't been paying attention.". He suffered a lot during eight years and it seems you are headed down the same road.

  • Your post says it all about you and the other Little Limbaughs.

  • Honey

    Caballero,
Your friend suffered needlessly because of his delusions. I am not suffering yet. But if Obama and company get their way, you and I and all of us will begin to understand what real suffering is.

Buczek, I ask you again, what are you getting out of your silly little posts here? You know nothing about any of us and generalize by what your small mind tells you to think.

I am not a little Limbaugh. I am a huge fan of Limbaugh's. I like intelligent, courteous, sweet people.
I do not like people who like to present veiled threats like we'll get what's coming to us. So far I do not have a good impression of you.

  • Honey, Buczek's problem is that he obviously hasn't gotten laid in way too long. I guess hanging out on porn sites just ain't doing it for him so he has to linger over here like a troll. If he didn't spend so much time on his computer, maybe he'd finally get a date.

  • Mr. Buczek-

Do you not have anything more productive to do with your time than snipe at me on this blog? Don't you work? Have a hobby? No jodas, chico!

CigarMike- Aha! THAT must be his hobby!

  • Alley Kat

I love Glenn Beck. I'm also amused by how easily anal retentive types get upset by his joking and clowning around, but Hey!! Sometimes laughter is the best way to get the bad news down, and Glenn can give insightful analysis infused with silliness. I think it's genius...besides....shhhsh! Don't tell my hubby I said so, but he's really cute too!!

  • Alley Kat : I second you on that!!!!!! He is adorable!!!!!! Plus i love the fact that he talks about his past and how far he has come in his life. He doesnt deserve the amount of criticism he has gotten over the years.

  • FreedomForCuba

As far as I'm concerned I like Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity because they stand-up for America and it's traditional values unlike the MSM, the left wing nuts and the Democratic Party that want to change and destroy the very fiber that this country was founded upon.

Let's not forget for a minute that for the last fifty years the left and the MSM are the most responsible groups for that sad shape that America is in today.

If anything I blame the Republicans is for having way too many RINOs in it's ranks that are incapable of keeping America in the right path and standing up to the left.

  • FreedomForCuba

And Ricky boy needs to get a life and get laid, but maybe he has performance issues and needs to hide behind a computer writing stupidity, who knows.
