I’ll Play for Stalinists, says Juanes, but not for democrats.

Lest we forget; the lovey-dovey, hippy-dippy, warm and fuzzy--and antiseptically "apolitical"-- Juanes ,canceled a concert in Honduras last month. He explained why:

political uncertainty…
Which does not guarantee a truly clean concert for us…All of us are with the people (emphasis by crackpot poster) of Honduras and our greatest desire is that civil society return to normality…

Return? How's that, Mr Juanes? Civil Society has never left Honduras. Indeed it was upheld on June 28th.

You know, all this stuff wouldn't be so bad if Juanes and his handlers would only stop trying to insult our intelligence. If only he said:
"F***k Off! I'm playing in Cuba 'cause I like Castro! So there!" kinda like what Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Buffet and Stuart Copeland did for their Havana Gig did in 1999--I'd have a little more respect for the slimy little weasel --if only because he'd be implying that Cuban-Americans have brains, that we're not stupid enough to swallow the swill he's dishing out lately.

Unreal.

Humberto, you hit the nail squarely on the head. That's precisely what's most infuriating about Juanes: the insult to our intelligence.

But, he and his handlers probably evaluated the situation from every point of view including the financial, and they've figured that he has more to gain from this concert than anything else. After all, the mainstream media isn't going to examine this impartially, on the contrary, they're already attacking Cuban Americans. In other words, they're only adding another layer of thick, black smoke to his lame rouse. And he lives and works in an environment--the entertainment field---that is totally pro-castro.

As I've said before, his little shindig might even get him a few extra Grammys and maybe even a few favorable editorials in the ever vigilante New York Times that's forever lending itself out as a platform to any anyone who is against exiles.

Oh, this explains everything. Juanes simply wants a "truly CLEAN concert." Now I get it. Of course, as everyone knows, the Castro government is squeaky clean, unlike those monstrous Micheletti people in Honduras (who basically haven't hurt a fly, but will surely start summary executions by firing squad any day now). Fidel and Raul Castro are pure as snow (even purer than their good friends the FARC, if that's possible). Silvio Rodriguez and the lovely Amaury, key Cuban players in this concert, are absolutely immaculate--not a speck of dirt on them. True, they both signed an official document supporting the summary execution of 3 young black men for trying to escape Castroland, but everybody makes these little mistakes. Let's just forgive and forget and sing Kumbaya. In other words, everyone and everything about Castro, Inc. is "truly clean."

There's only one teeny, tiny problem.

I'm afraid Juanes himself is FULL OF SHIT. Not to mention his buddy the Spaniard (but of course) Miguel Bose, who's so fashionable he's not only leftist but bisexual. It doesn't get any trendier than that. Anyway, in the wake of 9/11, Bose publicly said something to the effect that the US deserved it (which didn't stop him from coming to the US to perform for filthy American money afterwards).

But don't get me wrong. I do NOT expect Juanes to give a flying fuck for Cuba or Cubans. I know far better than to expect any such thing from "Latins." I would have thought, however, that the very well known FARC-Castro connection would have bothered him just a wee, teensy bit. Obviously, I'm just not sufficiently, uh, sophisticated. What a total ASSHOLE!
