Major Castro Enabler, RIP
Forty years after his media advance-work helping install a Stalinist regime in Cuba the legendary Don Hewitt of CBS still seemed proud of his work as a Castro media auxiliary. During that interim, over 20,000 Cubans were murdered by firing squad and beaten or starved to death in forced labor camps. Another 70-80 thousand were ripped apart by sharks or drowned in the Florida straits (attempting to flee a nation that previously took in more immigrants per-capita than the U.S.)
If Mr Hewitt had uttered a single word of remorse regarding this bloodbath, I'd find him easier to praise than to bury.

Unreal

(Disclaimer: the article's author does not put all (or even most) of the blame for Cuba's tragedy on the U.S. media. CUBANS from J/26/M commissioned Matthews and Taber for their work in Cuba. CUBANS from J/26/M clipped the Matthews article and spread them to Havana's Social Registry, to their utter thrill and delight(!!!) (regardless of what some of them might say nowadays). In their Castro boot-licking and ass-kissing the CUBAN media (Bohemia, primarily) far, far surpassed the U.S. media. Facts are facts, however ugly or inconvenient.
I read this on American Thinker, presently unable to post there due to persistent albeit limited tech trouble.
Worth reading again and again. As is Humberto's "Fidel - Hollywood's Favorite Tyrant", which provides insight not only into cagasstro but moreso into his stateside shill parrot media apologists and of course, Hollywood.
My wife and I reread 'Fidel....' recently. It's quick, wry, tragic reading, and informative for anyone who wants to understand just how cynical and nasty are our mainstream media's long term efforts to dumb down their audiences and lie on behalf of communist murderers worldwide.
Why does anyone even bother with watching the 'boob tube' media or reading their pinksheets?
CBS' blatantly whored for cagasstro during the Elian Gonzalez atrocity. Dan Rather's held hands in the shower with, and took his marching orders from, leftist 'lawyer' GregCraig. CBS betrayed Elian Gonzalez, the wishes of his deceased mother, the American citizens, truth, justice, and all sense of decency.
Why would anyone watch any part of that?
And for what? So that a bunch of yuppie dope-dealer-turned-businessmen and their political cronies could curry favor with a strange old mass murdering tyrant with a yen for young boys?
Not quite a recommendation, is it?

PS -
Hewitt was just another one of the pile at CBS, and altogether too typical of a northeastern leftist elite.
True believers in the workers' paradise, contemptuous of Americans, they seemed to be misfits who longed for the chains of their beloved feudal old europe.
But, having enjoyed the good life in America that old europe surely would have denied them, they found a better way - yoke us with the chains, first by means of propaganda, secondly by unduly influencing their political friends in high places to constrict liberty and confiscate wealth for high-minded albeit tediously commie causes - social justice, environmentalism, the rest of the activist sewer...
Tedious.

If you google Hewitt, you get the usual laudatory obituaries. But if you say Hewitt+Castro, you get Fontova's article in several references.
Humberto, I don't think the scumbag who ran "Bohemia" committed suicide for nothing after he left Cuba. Just like ex-president Carlos Prio, who put up no resistance to the Batista coup in 1952, and later helped Castro with very major money (before 1959), did not commit suicide for nothing.
Mr A,
Very interestingly, our good friend prof. Tony de la Cova has evidence that Miguel Angel Quevedo's famous suicide letter--might be a forgery!
This was also brought to light by the late Agustin Tamargo!
Not that, regarding Castro cheerleading, Quevedo didn't have much to answer for and perhaps regret. But along with that swinishness and idiocy were accumulating personal and financial problems. The forgerer, some say, is former Bohemia writer and Quevedo friend, Ernesto Montaner (C.A.'s father.)!
Unreal
You may well be right, Humberto. I suppose he may have been enough of a scumbag not to care about or regret his role in sinking Cuba. He may have committed suicide for other reasons.
