The more things “Change,” the more they stay the same

cartoon - Obama Enemy

I understand the point that the caricaturist is making, but Gee Whiz, he couldn't find a better example than Kennedy who dropped the ball so notoriously with Cuba? Talking about an appeaser of dictators.

  • Actually, in this cartoon, Obama comes out BETTER than JFK.

At least he's honest about it. I don't think you'd find 1500 freedom-fighters hitting any beachead expecting Obama's promised air support.

Kennedy's problem wasn't appeasement. Regarding Cuba and the Soviets, he was in way over his head and screwed up badly (the "best and the brightest" were anything but, in practical terms). He eventually opted to do whatever it took to extricate himself from a serious jam and somehow save face. It was not ideological; it was personal, as in CYA and make sure you can get re-elected. Obama is something else.

  • Rayarena, that is why I titled this post "the more things change, the more they stay the same." While JFK turned his back on those fighting for freedom, he at least paid lip service to their cause. But as Humberto pointed out, Obama does not make any attempts to "appear" he's on the side of freedom. To Obama's credit, he has never hidden his affinity for Marxists and despotic dictators, although you will never catch hm boasting about it in mixed company.

With Obama, at least, you know where he's heading, and it's always to the left.

If Kennedy wasn't shot by angry Cuban exiles ... then he should have been.
