The Obama administration is a disgrace

Behind any despot stands the Obama administration in support:

Allahpundit pretty much nails it:

He could have dodged this question a dozen ways. He could have said the election’s irrelevant from our standpoint since we have to play the cards we’re dealt; he could have noted, as Obama’s often done in the past, that true power resides in the supreme leader so it’s only his legitimacy that’s at issue; or he could have told the truth and said that all Iranian elections are shams since true reformers aren’t allowed on the ballot. Instead, so desperate are these tools to get Iran to the bargaining table and show Americans some sort of dividend from Hopenchange diplomacy that Gibbs actually acknowledges Ahmadinejad as the “elected leader” — the same lie the regime’s been telling the world and the same lie Iranians have been dying in the streets to challenge.

What did you expect from the Obama administration?

I would bet that this is a big miscalculation that is going to work against the Obama administration after all that it has happened in Iran for the last couple months.

He may even end up being attacked by some sectors of the MSM, who knows, time will tell.

  • dccuban

That is Robert Gibbs talking, not Obama, so it simply doesn't matter.

Actually, I think Gibbs was pretty clever as he avoided the use of the word "legitimate" in place of "elected" ... and everyone knows he meant "elected" as in a rigged election.

  • Nice try, DC, but no one is there to hear Gibb's opinion. They are there to hear the official position of the administration as voiced by its press secretary. Gibbs is parroting what he was told to parrot.

  • raylove54

by the same token did you know that Fido is Cuban elected president?

  • asombra

You got that right, Alberto. Gibbs is purely a mouthpiece, and whatever comes out of it in his official position as press secretary is what was put in it by his boss. Same as with any other person in that job.

I still think Gibbs was doing what he could to avoid the use of the word "legitimate" that the reporter put to him in the statement of the question. It's unfortunate that people fail to see how "elected" means less than "legitimate". Elected means nothing,, if the election was rigged. But if it makes you feel better, Gibbs has backed off of even that term:

    Today's news:

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (Reuters) - White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Wednesday said he had misspoken in calling Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Iran's elected leader and that Washington will let the Iranian people decide whether Iran's election was fair.

"Let me correct a little bit of what I said yesterday. I denoted that Mr. Ahmadinejad was the elected leader of Iran. I would say that's not for me to pass judgment on," Gibbs told reporters aboard Air Force One.

"He's been inaugurated. That's a fact. Whether any election was fair, obviously the Iranian people still have questions about that, and we'll let them decide about that."

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was sworn in as Iran's president on Wednesday in a ceremony boycotted by reformist leaders and parliamentarians and marred by street protests over his victory.

The 53-year-old hard-liner took his oath of office nearly eight weeks after a disputed election that unleashed Iran's worst unrest since the 1979 Islamic revolution and divided the political and clerical elite.

Obama and the leaders of France, Britain, Italy and Germany have all decided not to congratulate Ahmadinejad on his re-election. Gibbs had called Ahmadinejad Iran's "elected leader" on Tuesday during a briefing.

    dccuban,

The bottom line that no matter how you slice it and dice it, Obama could have done so much more to stand up to Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs while they were murdering the protestors and chose not to do so.

This fact speaks volumes on his true character, what he's made off, and his non-existing ability to lead.

Obama lost a precious opportunity to publicly support the internal upheaval taking place in Iran by the people tired of the hardliners and a stolen election.

Plus Obama with his worldwide charisma could have rallied worldwide support in this upheaval and put more pressure on the regime while possibly force it to implode from within.

But what you and many Americans don't understand yet is that Obama's sympathies are with Ahmadinejad, not with freedom and democracy regardless of his beautiful speeches full of bullshit.

It is time to face it once and for all, there is not a single enemy of freedom and democracy that our current President does not love. This fact and truth sickens me.

I knew from the very beginning of this crisis that this was going to be the final outcome as Barack Hussein Obama does not fool me in his intentions.

Now Ahmadinejad will be emboldened in his quest for nukes and won't stop in his quest to eradicate the state of Israel from the face of the earth.

The sad part of this issue is that now I'm assured that sooner or later there will be an unavoidable confrontation between Iran and the State of Israel as a consequence of our current Marxist, Bullshit Artist sorry ass excuse for a Commander-In-Chief dropping the ball on this issue.

  • dccuban,

Do you by any chance work for the administration in any way?

  • dccuban

    Lol. No, I do not.
