Absolutely Unreal Heroism, Rick Rescorla

"The best platoon leader I ever saw"
Said Lieut. Gen. Hal Moore about 9/11 hero Rick Rescorla, who in Nov. 1965 found himself among the 450 G.I's surrounded by 4000 North Vietnamese during the battle of Ia Drang.

"Men who parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and had survived the war in Korea were shocked by the savagery of this battle...We were dry-mouthed and our bowels churned with fear, and still the enemy came on in waves,” recalled a Rescorla comrade.

That Communist enemy paid a heavy price--Rescorla and his comrades ripped into them inflicting casualties of ten to one.

Rescorla's Vietnam honors included the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, a Purple Heart, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

Post-war he was a security executive for Morgan Stanley, and proved as faithful to his duty in Manhattan as he'd been in Vietnam's central highlands, seeing 2700 of his charges safely evacuated from the Tower.

He was last seen on floor 72, making triple sure he'd left no one behind.

His remains have never been recovered.

Absolutely Un-Freakin-Real! heroism.
