It can’t happen here

When we heard candidate Obama repeating the same buzz words and catch phrases used by leftist dictators during his presidential campaign and we voiced our concerns, those on the left called us crazy and some on the right said it could never happen here. Later, when we complained that president Obama was attempting to steer this nation to the extreme left with his radical policies and he embarked on a spending spree that made the drunken sailor Republicans look like thrifty Scrooges, the left once again said we were crazy and some on the right kept saying it can't happen here.

Well, guess what? It is happening here and it is happening now.

Obama no longer feels you have a first amendment right to express yourself. That right is only extended to those that agree with him and his policies.

The Obama administration says companies could face legal action for allegedly sending misleading information to seniors.

Associated Press
September 22, 2009

Washington - The Obama administration warned insurance companies Monday that they could face legal action for allegedly trying to scare seniors with misleading information about the potential for lost benefits under healthcare legislation in Congress.

"As we continue our research into this issue, we are instructing you to immediately discontinue all such mailings to beneficiaries and to remove any related materials directed to Medicare enrollees from your websites," said a notice from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

Teresa DeCaro, an agency official, sent the notice to all companies that sell private Medicare coverage and stand-alone drug plans to seniors.

In one case, the Health and Human Services Department, which oversees the agency, launched an investigation of Humana Inc. after getting a complaint from Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), a lawmaker usually viewed as a reliable ally of the insurance industry. Baucus also put together the Senate Finance Committee's version of the healthcare bill.

Humana is cooperating with the investigation and stopped the mailer this month, the company said Monday.

Federal subsidies to private Medicare plans average about 14% higher than those involved in traditional fee-for-service coverage under the program for those age 65 and older. The healthcare bills pending in Congress call for reducing or eliminating the difference.

According to the Obama administration, Humana, which is a private corporation, does not have the right to express their opinion of Obama's healthcare proposal if it is not in agreement with him. The Supreme Court has made it clear that as far as the constitution is concerned, corporations have the same rights as individuals. In Obama's America, however, only the corporations that agree with him have those rights.

This all sounds eerily familiar, doesn't it? Sounds a lot like Cuba, doesn't it?

Still think it can't happen here?

  • Utter Bullshit. Clear First Amendment violation. Where's the ACLU? Where's all those butt munching wankers who said Bush was taking away their civil rights? This is so blatant it's sick. BUt hey, these are the same assholes who can't even abide by the Hatch Act...

You think that losing first Amendment rights is bad and now you are worried! How about property confiscation? you don't seem concerned about that, and it happens everyday. Of course the elderly are targeted because they can be accused of being senile, locked away, and chemically restrained while the locks on their homes are changed and their property confiscated and they are too weak, tired and sick to put up much of a fight!
Somehow the property confiscation that's taking place, and is being called the 'biggest transfer of wealth in the 21st century' seems to be less of a crime than strong-arming a few corporations into submission!
I still can't figure out why property confiscation is ok, while reigning in free speech is not!

  • Here's something for you Albert,

Obama friendly AARP gets a pass in spreading false information while Humana gets a gag order from spreading what the CBO has published.

    Unreal....

  • Mike:

I was aware that the Obama administration has turned a blind eye to the propaganda blitz being conducted by the AARP in favor of his healthcare proposals. But just like Humana, the AARP is a private organization and they have a constitutional right to express their views, even if they are just being shills for Obama.

Once again, this illustrates perfectly the left's inability to see the consequences of their own actions. If they were smart, they would have brought the hammer down on everyone equally. They would lose the help of the AARP, but they still have the MSM promoting their agenda on a daily basis. Besides, the AARP is struggling right now after all the bad publicity they're getting and tens of thousands of members have canceled their memberships in protest. They may, in fact, be more of a burden to Obama's agenda than anything else.

This just goes to show you that of all the things you can call a liberal, smart is rarely, if ever, one of them.

    Thank God!
