Only the news that’s fit to print…
And that makes it past the Obama censor machine:
ABC's Moran removes tweet with Obama swipe at Kanye
ABC News reporter Terry Moran caused quite a commotion tonight on Twitter after writing the following: "Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a "jackass" for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential."
Although it wasn't long before Moran removed it, with over a million followers, the tweet quickly bounced around Twitter through various users. (And it can still be found here).
Now, an ABC spokesperson explains to POLITICO what happened:
In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again.

UPDATE: A CNBC spokesperson declined comment.
The White House had no immediate comment.

I actually liked and agree with Obama that Kanye is a "jackass". As for this reporter, I think the issue is "off the record" versus "on the record". If Obama said these comments off the record, I'm not sure it makes good journalistic sense to "tweet" about it - and thus ensure that noone will ever tell you anything off the record ever again.
I expect Obama's problem is not that West is a jackass, per se, but that he's a very black jackass who was abominably rude and, in a way, abusive on national TV to a very white, frail-looking young girl--a major faux pas that simply cannot be explained away. Obama doesn't need any such incident(s) to possibly reflect badly by extension on himself. In other words, I think this is primarily a political issue for him.
Agree....it's all about the race card in the post-racial obamaera, Kanye's stupidity notwithstanding. I'm glad this happened to TMoran, though; he's a first class koolaid drinker. Maybe he's afraid of landing at Ft. Marcy park.
Ziva, the New York Times motto on your headline should instead read: "Only the fits that's news to print."
