Obama doesn't need any such incident(s) to possibly reflect badly by extension on himself. In other words, I think this is primarily a political issue for him. As for this reporter, I think the issue is "off the record" versus "on the record". If Obama said these comments off the record, I'm not sure it makes good journalistic sense to "tweet" about it - and thus ensure that noone will ever tell you anything off the record ever again.
