Heavy Hearts

Hello all,

It is with much sadness that I announce that our beloved Tio Pepin passed this morning at 2am. I know I speak for all the members of our family when I thank you all for your kinds words, warm thoughts, and prayers during the last few months. Although this is something we've been expecting for some time, the loss of a loved one is never easy, but the support of the Babalu family (contributors and readers alike) made it a bit easier to bear.

I'm sure Val will have more to say in the near future, but right now he is by my grandfather side as he deals with the reality of losing his big brother.  Again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

R.I.P. Tio Pepin

    What is there to say, when they go they always take a piece of you with them....
    a here's few words from Walt Whitman.-

    "O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
    The ship has weather?d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
    The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
    While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring"

    Amanda,

    My thoughts and prayers are with you, your uncle Val, and your family. Que Dios tenga a Tio Pepin en su gloria!

    I wish you well, Melek

    A Rainy Day
    Things are not as bad
    As they now may seem to be
    Your life will still go on
    Even though it’s without me

    These are not tears of sadness
    On this day of rain
    Please look at them as tears of joy
    For I am now free of pain

    You can not know the freedom
    Or the peace that I now feel
    I hope this is some comfort
    As you all now learn to deal

    The battle now is over
    And in many ways I’ve won
    While you might think it is raining
    I am warm amidst the sun

    Val - I just returned from a funeral in St. Augustine for the mom of my best friend in college - who was like a second mother to me. Another best friend had to runoff to New York due to his mom's stroke. I buried my dad a little over 4 years ago, and no longer have any aunts or uncles or grandparents left. The only consolation I can offer is that it is all part of God's plans for us - we cannot change it, only learn to accept it. I can tell you that you WILL reach a point where you can laugh at tio Pepin situations and life stories, eventually losing the tears that come now also. He will want you to recall him often, fondly, and with a smile on your face. My condolences to you and your extended family. I will pray for his eternal rest and that God grant you the spiritual healing you may need. Peace.
