Communism’s legacy

Caption HERE

Until this day I didn't know it was Barzini (or Amaury Perez, Silvio Rodriguez, Alicia Alonso, Juan Formell, etc.) all along

"In Romania, where 700,000 informants kept tabs for the "Securitate" on a population of 22 million, the more than 2 million files remain tightly controlled, yet dirty secrets keep slipping out to damage careers, friendships and family ties."

Can you imagine, amigos, when similar files finally get opened in Cuba?! It will not be pretty....

Surely, surely no system in human history has served to so corrupt the human psyche as Communism. And such disclosures from East Europe shows that its aftereffects are more damaging than radiation.

The Japanese have recovered. But many East European societies seem permanently crippled....sad and horrible.

"This summer, a newspaper outed soccer star Gheorghe "Gica" Popescu, the former captain of Romania's national football team. At first he angrily denied it, then acknowledged he wrote notes informing on teammates and others in the 1980s."

The system deliberately and knowingly tries to compromise or implicate as many people as possible, since that makes them much less likely to turn against it for fear of potential retribution. The system thrives on creating dirty laundry, the dirtier the better, the more the better. The shit works.

That was Romania....Go figure Cuba with more than a century of communism...Probably even the pets are recruited as "spies" and "chivatos" for the regime...
