correction (blast this dylexia of mine)

Antonio y Humberto:

Thank you wish I had known this "somewhat" earlier.

On the other hand if Rolando Masferrer really was still a covert communist, if Batista had prevailed --as most overt communists thought until about mid summer of 1958-- and were my wild, half crazy and definitely dismal hypothesis correct: Grobart was playing double team on Cuba. If that were so we might well have been under a communist communist government run by Masferrer not Castro, and instead of "milicianos" we would have had Tigres (again Marc please forgive me).

Amigos, the saddest part of all this--as y'all well know--is that CUBANS implored Matthews to visit Castro and arranged his visit. Then CUBANS spread his articles throughout Havana's Social register, whose members, almost en masse, twittered with UTTER DELIGHT AT WHAT MATTHEWS WROTE...never mind what many of them claimed from exile four years later.

Unreal

Here is an interesting cartoon of Herbert Matthews by Antonio Prohias (Spy vs. Spy) in 1961.

Pictures really are worth a thousand words. That photo says it all: the Chumpmaster and the chump. And of course, half a century later, the great New York Times still hasn't done the decent thing by Cuba, not only because it doesn't want to, but because it feels there's absolutely no need to bother. Contemptible bastards.
