Mensa Int. Meets in Havana

Latino musics Best and Brightest wave and weep in Havana
"Latino" musics' "Best and Brightest" wave and weep in Havana

(The Mensa society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population.)

“Cuba’s economic problems result from a blockade by 98 nations!” gurgled Juanes concert crony Cucu Diamantes. (And as Dave Barry used to write, I swear I’m not making this up!)

First it was Olga Tanon denouncing the blockade of food and medicine to Cuba. Now this.

As pointed out by the fine folks at Tersites:

Cuba’s Stalinist regime boasts of commercial relations with 176 nations.

And the UN lists 192 members.

So Cucu Diamantes has discovered 82 nations hitherto undiscovered by the rest of humanity!

Columbus, Magellan, Cabot, Drake, Cortes, Pizarro, Champlain, De Soto, De Gama, Balboa, Stanley, Livingstone, Mungo Park, Einstein and Nostradamus–these were all CHUMPS compared to Cucu Diamantes!!!

(you will be flabbergasted to learn that Cucu Diamantes is a product of Stalinist Cuba’s: STUPENDOUS FREE PRIMARY EDUCATION!!!)

Viva la Revolucion!

Vamos Bien!

Unreal.

  1. Are they wearing white in sympathy with the ladies in white who protest for the release of prisoners of conscience?
Could this be a subversive sympathy vote for those prisoners’ release?

  2. Did La CuCu ask why all the hotels had the foods that were not in the markets that happen to be all run by the fascist castro govt.?

  3. Cucu is pathetic. She only has a record deal cuz her hubby is the producer and maestro behind Yerba Buena (not that more than three people outside of NYC know who they are).

I remember seeing them a couple of years back and thinking that Cucu was by far the cutest of the female singers in the group but that she lacked the pipes. She really isn’t that impressive.

Final note on Yerba Buena years ago when they were really nothing at all they played a show that was being headlined by Celia – they totally lost their shit when they were introduced. They were in love with her – can’t believe they would disrespect her in such a way.

  4. Yep. Knew it all along. It’s not cagasstro’s fault at all, see, it’s that cruel ‘blockade’ that’s ruined Cuba.

Yup. Here’s some more wisdom in that vein:

    Guns cause crime.

    Free speech causes violence.

    Citizens who question tyrants are
    really secret terrorists who
    should be arrested, shot, and
    brought to trial.

    Citizens who believe they have
    ‘rights’ present a danger to
those who ‘want to help us’.

    Ronald Reagan was responsible
    for the Sacking of Rome.

King Xenon of Armenia was not the
    culprit behind the Shelling of
    Constantinople – it was George
    Bush’s fault.

The San Andreas Fault is George
    Bush’s fault.

Their like concrete – all mixed up and set, these dupes.

    They’re in your neighborhood.
    They’re in my neighborhood.

    They love castro. They said,
‘socialism at last’ when this one
    got himself elected.

    And they’re right – socialism
usually is the last stop on
    The Road to Perdition.

  5. please check out the wikipedia page for Yerba Buena before it gets an edit. blasts Cucu – says she can’t even sing. Truth is…and I say this as someone who has seen them live…she can’t. As for the music – no doubt they were better with Descemer Bueno. No way he was going to be invited to play Paz Sin Fronteras. Don’t know what rock he is hiding under but his Habana (Free Mix) is awesome.

  6. I got into Mensa.
Well, it is true I left them after a year or two.
But I don’t want to generalize about them.

  7. Never heard of Cucu before, but that photo looks like a bad rendition of Cuban commie ballerina Alicia Alonso. My mom used to tell me about Alicia when I was a child, and some years ago I saw pictures of her — when she was young and when she was old. Maybe they were separated at birth.
