As you well know, Tony. Sori Marin, wasn't exactly an innocent victim. This chronically unemployed lawyer (typical "idealistic revolutionary") scurried into the Sierra, joined Castro and crafted the famous "legal dictum" that started the firing squad bloodbath that Che later cranked into high gear in La Cabana. Death sentences on no more evidence than "revolutionary conviction."

In fact, unless I err, this pic on your site is from Look mag. (top left here)

http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/revolutionary-firing-squads-1.htm

is of the hapless Oscar Ramirez, receiving the coup d'grace in the Sierra based on Sori Marin's newly-minted revolutionary "law."

In his book, Valladares, describes how 3 years later Sori Marin found himself in a La Cabana cell, among many men HE HAD SENT THERE HIMSELF!!!

There are pictures somewhere of Sori Marin, one of the presiding "judges", gloating and smirking as the valiant and dignified Jesus Sosa Blanco is sentenced to death.

"What goes around..." Hunh?

You can't MAKE this stuff up! Absolutely Un-Freakin Real.

Humberto, It appears that your post forced the Herald to rectify today that Juanita's CIA link was reported frequently, going back to the 1960s. As usual, Herald reporting is at a loss on the Cuban exile community.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't buy this book if it cost a nickel, and I can't see why anybody would. If there's anything in it truly new and significant, it would soon become public knowledge anyway. If the woman wants her 15 minutes, or wants to spin things her way, or whatever, I'm not about to accommodate her.

After her little scolding of the Cuban exile community for celebrating when news of her bastard brother's serious illness first came out, she lost my vote permanently. It's bad enough she showed such poor judgment, but the lack of what should be utter discretion, extreme humility and exquisite tact was intolerable. Let her take it someplace else. Pass.

The CIA stuff probably provokes even LOUDER guffaws on Calle Ocho. Historic exiles all know the CIA's JM/WAVE station employed probably half of Cuban Miami in the early 60's. Probably half the males sitting in Versailles on any week-end night can claim gig's similar to Juanita's with JFK's CRACKERJACK(!!!) CIA.

The "revelation" was really about Juanita's contacts with the CIA and dissidents, not the execution of Sori Marin. I think that in the Sori tale the Herald is merely reporting what was stated in the interview. Tamayo knows the story already, he is merely passing along what was mentioned in the piece.
