Soviet Subsidies to Cuba were Chump Change–Compared to Hugo’s

From the Bolsheviks, Castro got the equivalent of 7 Marshall Plans--which he invested into converting a nation richer than half of European countries and one with five times as many cars per capita as Japan--into one sneered at by Haitians!

"Viva la Revolucion!"

"Vamos Bien!"

Now from Chavez, the Castros are getting almost DOUBLE the Bolshevik sum annually. All nations should be blessed with 45 years of such a diabolical, strangulating and impoverishing "Bloqueo!"

As a result oxen are now treasured as a means of Cuban transport!

"Vamos Bien!"

Folks, this stuff defies not only the laws of economics, but seemingly, the very laws of physics!

Unreal

(H/T to our good friend, Jose Cadenas)

  • Mr. Mojito

Silly Humberto, most of that cash goes to providing stateof the art medical care like shown in Sicko. (sarcasm)

Also, would an Oxen be more enviromentally friendly than a Prius? Help me out here :)

  • Honey

And mustn't forget that excellent propaganda machine and all that's needed to keep the hotels up to snuff for the tourists so they can brag about what a gorgeous place Cuba is to visit. And we must keep all of those henchmen happy because they help keep the populace under control. That takes perks and all kinds of special treatment. And we must keep all of those exchange students happy, too so they can go home and tell their family and friends how Cuba is getting a bad rap. All this costs money, folks. Don't you get it?
Drop that embargo and watch us spend more on all of this.
What? You expect us to use money to feed our populace and give them better health care? Are you nuts? It's hard enough keeping them tame through hunger and helplessness as it is. Use some sense.

How am I doing Mr. Mojito?

  • Mr. Mojito

Great job Honey, you'll make a fine Leftist indeed :) - all it takes is a suspension of logic.

It will be amazing once Fidel dies to see how many villas and Chateaus he owns in Europe. I'd say he probably has homes on the French riveria, Meditteranean, Greek islands, maybe a winter cabin in Sweden, probably a boat house in Crete ... it's good to be the King as they say - luckily or Cubans, he's so generous with his subjects.

  • Honey

But did he ever leave Cuba? I thought he always stayed there.

  • Rayarena

But Humberto, Mr. Mojito and Honey, it doesn't matter that Cuba is getting so many subsidies from Hugo Chavez in exchange for human chattel, and that the castro brothers divert all of these subsidies into the tourist/repressive forces/PR machine/personal pockets sector, the ONLY thing that TRULY matters is the "inhuman US BLOCKADE!!!!!!" and those "truly repellent!!!" [did I get the quote right?] Cuban exiles who are "killing" the Cubans inside Cuba even though they provide over one billion dollars a year to their families back home.

The MSM and especially the New York Times says so and they can't be wrong! They're the "paper of record!" They only print, "all the news that's worth printing."

A lot of that money has gone to buy people out. I think it's called "Pay for Play" money.

  • asombra

The real chumps are the Venezuelans who put Chavez where he is, free to waste astronomic sums on life support for Cuba instead of using that money for the benefit of Venezuelans. As stupid as Cubans were over Castro, Venezuelans were even worse.

  • FreedomForCuba

"As stupid as Cubans were over Castro, Venezuelans were even worse."

Asombra you just nailed as usual .

We told the Venezuelans what was coming to them and the majority totally disregarded us. Now they don't know what to do and how to get rid of Chavez.

What bewilders me the most if that the opposition to Chavez thinks that they can remove him through the election process when we know that is all rigged.

The only way that Chavez can be removed from power is through a public revolt backed my members of the military.

I have a feeling the Venezuelan opposition don't understand this fact yet.

  • Honey

I would say how did a civilized country let this happen, but look at this country allowing a bunch of crooks and anti Americans to steal our country out from under us.
I hope we don't wind up like Venezuela. I hope the Tea Party movement and some good candidates for our side can still reverse things.
Yahoo says that opposition to Obamacare is shrinking. Oy. I hope that's not true.
