Cuban dissident Martha Beatriz Roque is seriously ill

721-martabeatriz_standalone_prod_affiliate_56

Martha Beatriz Roque, a leading Cuban dissident who was arrested and imprisoned as part of the 2003 "Black Spring" crackdown, is seriously ill.  The 64 year old  has been on a hunger stike  in spite of the fact that she suffers from diabetes and heart problems.  She and other dissidents have been conducting a sit-in protest against the dictatorship at the home of dissident Vladimiro Roca, besieged by Cuban police and other communist sympathizers.

Marc has more here, and in Spanish, here, and here.

One of the bravest people in Cuba. Her life has been a martyrdom. I pray to God that she recovers. Sidenote, as usual the New York Times has not said a word about this.
