Curses! Foiled again!–by Ileana, Lincoln, Mario and Mauricio!
Cabrones!....Again!
Has anyone ever seen or heard (or even HEARD -OF!) an editorial, position-paper, etc. from any politician, businessman, pundit, commentator, celebrity, "Cuba Expert," Professor, Academic, organization, Think-Tank, etc. etc. etc. etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.
anywhere on the face of this planet FAVORING travel RESTRICTIONS to Cuba?
I mean, Castro's Public Relations auxiliaries (on the payroll and off) hold a complete monopoly on this issue...and yet..and YET!...
Our Cuban-American Congressfolks and the miracle-workers at Capitol Hill Cubans continue poking a sharp finger in their eye!.....and Oops, they did it again!
Congrats, amigos!.....You've got Cuba's military nomenklatura, owners of GAESA and Gaviota, FUMING!!!
As Dave Barry used to write: Neener, Neener, Neener!
Unreal

Yeah, but after you read the linked article, scroll down and read the comments.....Typical of the brain washed, liberal ignoramuses that detest Cuban exiles and hold on tenaciously to their force fed misinformation.
With this kind of twisted thinking so rampant in the population at large, it almost feels like all attempts at maintaining the status quo is punching at the wind. Ok, I said "feels like", certainly not suggesting here that we throw in the towel!
Exactly, Ms Alley Kat!
Those comments pretty much reflect what you read and see and hear regarding the travel restrictions in the MSM and in all "respectable and enlightened" circles....Which is what makes the stupendous work of the folks I mention all the more--UNREAL!
Fidel is probably the best PR agent the world has ever seen ... advertising schools will study his propaganda for centuries once he officially dies and his regime collapses.
I submit that there are genuinely sound arguments to be made that easing travel restrictions to Cuba will enhance the pathways of cultural diffusion between Cubans and the rest of the world, and especially the U.S., which can only be a benefit to the progress of democracy and human rights. Cultural diffusion enhances the subjective in foreign relations, the one-to-one contacts and exchange of ideas which the Castro regime is so opposed to permitting.
But I distinguish this from the larger picture of state-to-state contacts, in which the objective facts of the total control of the economy by the Cuban state could be manipulated to the regime's advantage through the acquisition of new wealth through foreign trade. We have seen how China has avoided internal reform by asserting their control of foreign trade. We should keep in mind that Castro's Cuba could follow a similar path.

you make it sound as if keeping the travel restrictions brings us any closer to having freedom in Cuba. It doesn't mean squat in the grand scheme of things. I don't necessarily have an issue with them - don't care one way or another - but it is not going to affect a gosh darned thing except make you feel good about yourself. I doubt Castro Inc. loses any sleep over it.
Cardinal,
Keeping the travel rstrictions may not bring us closer to bringing freedom to Cuba, but at least they wont get us any farther.
"Lifting the travel ban to Cuba would be a GIFT to the Castros," Cuban defector Alcibiades Hidalgo, who until 2002 served as Raul Castro's Chief of Staff.
I think Hidalgo should know.
