“Cuba provides best Medical training ON EARTH!” says Al Jazeera

"The Cuban-Ttrained doctor will see you now...!"

"The Cuban-trained doctor will see you now...!"

"In universities across Cuba, the next generation of African doctors are being trained....When they graduate, the doctors will return home to treat patients in some of Africa's poorest countries, equipped with some of the best medical training in the world.".

So says Al Jazeera

On the other hand:

"According to a report by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, more than 75% of “doctors” with Cuban “medical degrees” flunk the exam given by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates for licensing in the U.S. Most Cuba-certified doctors even flunk the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates’ exam for certification as “physician assistants,” making them unfit even as nurses. None of this is meant to disparage these hapless men and women who were simply cursed by fate to be born under a Stalinist tyranny."

Entire intransigence here.

This has been my experience with physicians trained in other communist countries. As an intern during the 80's I met many Soviet ex-pat physicians. They also struggled to pass their exams and required extra courses, and clinical time as they were subpar; comparing their expertise to that of a Physicians Assistant or a Nurse Practioner was accurate. Although these type of allied health workers can indeed be wonderful, and fill a much needed role in our medical care, they can not supplant the knowledge and expertise which physicians have-particularly American trained physicians. Communist countries get what they pay for--not much.
