DGI in Obama Administration?

From Andrew Breitbart's Big Government via the Weekly Standard:

Today, the Obama White House announced the nomination of Mari Del Carmen Aponte as U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador. It is not Ms. Aponte’s first brush with an ambassadorship. In 1998, President Clinton nominated her to be Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. She was forced to withdraw her name from consideration over allegations of ties to the Cuban spy agency.

It seems that Ms. Aponte was "cohabitating" with DGI agent Roberto Tamayo back in the nineties. I suppose the Obama administration will play this down by scoffing that this "happened years ago" and attest to Aponte's character and all that.

I'm sure, tho, that there's a similar saying in the DGI for this CIA truism:

Once a company man, always a company man.

  • His number one choice was Ana Belen Montes but she was otherwise occupied...

Why doesn't the anointed simply pardon Montes, release her, and send her off to danny-boy ortega's new-workers' paradise?

Then it would be way too obvious Mr. Zecchino...

Everything this administration does is VERY WELL CALCULATED. Make no mistake. The fact that Maria del Carmen Aponte (with her DGI credentials) was appointed embassador to El Salvador is nothing more than a pay back:

Ex-President of Salvador (6/1/1999 to 6/1/2004) Francisco Flores has been the ONLY Latin American President with real C***nes. He has been the only one to stand up to fidel castro and to tell him to his face that he’s a murderer: During the Nov. 2000 Latin American Summit in Panama, President Flores looked at fidel straight in the eyes and in an accusatory tone blamed him for the thousands of deaths occurred in El Salvador.

El Salvador has also been a good and loyal friend of the United States. During Flores’ presidency, he offered his full support to the war in Iraq, including sending troops. Flores also was among (and perhaps the only one) that recognized Pedro Carmona of Venezuela, when chavez was forced to resign.

I see storms in the horizon!!!

  • I'm with firefly. The calculating nature of the Obama administration cannot be underestimated.

So why would Ms. Aponte be appointed to El Salvador, rather than somewhere else?

Mary Anastasia O'Grady at the Wall Street Journal may have the answer. El Salvador is Chavez's next target in Central America.

The Obama administration needs to "prepare the ground" first. They don't want to be embarrassed the way they were in Honduras.
