More on the Diabolical “Bloqueo”!
"Poultry exports from Georgia to Cuba were worth more than $21 million last year, according to the Atlanta-based U.S. Poultry and Egg Export Council."
And these Georgia good 'ole boys marvel at the ease and efficiency of forsaking all those pesky, wheeling-dealing, haggling businessmen they might encounter in other (also known as free) markets. Why "YEEEE-HAH!" In Cuba-- given her unique commercial set-up--they only have to meet with one!!!
He said that dealing with one customer to reach the whole nation has benefited AJC tremendously..Cuba has 11 million people, but Georgia food exporters learned on a recent trip that they only need to reach one buyer to do considerable business in the island nation."
Such are the marvels of transacting commerce with a Stalinist Dictatorship--"one call-that's all!"
"Yeee-hah!!"
Absolutely Un-Freakin-Real.
H/T to our friend Jose "EL Tiburon" Cadenas

So, why can't Cuba raise enough chickens to feed themselves and the tourists? (rhetorical question). Georgia's population is about 9.7 million, so these exports equal $2.16 per Georgian. This is a 1-day supply of chicken for your average Georgian. Can the Cuban economy really not produce a supply of chickens equivalent to a 1-day supply per day of your average Georgian? I think this is the bigger story.
A little more on AJC. Bios of some of the officers:
Eric Joiner, Vice Chairman: Mr. Joiner also serves on the Board of Advisors for The Carter Center in Atlanta (need I say more?)
Brad Allison, Presiden: Mr. Allison graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors from Miami University with a BS in Business Administration in 1992
Evan Davidman, Senior VP: Mr. Davidman is a graduate of the University of Florida where he received his BS degree in Business Administration in 1985
So Humberto, I love your stuff, but these aren't Georgia good ole boys, just another huge multi-national (offices in 6 countries) company wanting to make money while oblivious to (or unconcerned with) the people they are doing business with.
The oppressed Cubans on the island have few better friends than the farmers in Georgia, Alabama, and most of the south, who sell their chickens to companies like Pilgrims Pride, whom the article says supplies half of Cuba's poultry. These farmers don't know where those chickens end up.
Indeed, that famous southern hospitality embraced many of us--and at a very important time:

The REAL Question is WHY does Cuba NEED to import HALF of its Poultry? Pray tell?
And import Sugar too!
