En memoria de Gloria Amaya

6a00d8341c54f053ef012876bd4549970c-200wi

Jose Martí said of the great Cuban mother, Marina Grajales, “Faciles son los heroes con tales mujeres” (It’s easy to be heroes with women such as these).

Gloria Amaya was also such a women.

Surely, one of the cruelest lies ever uttered was the promise made 51 years ago on January 9, 1959:

“I tell the mothers that they will never, because of us, have to weep.”

May God bless her, and may she now rest in peace without tears.

There are wonderful tributes to Doña Gloria Amaya by Marc, here, and Capitol Hill Cubans,  here.
