CNBC and MSNBC contributor Donny Deutsch joins his fellow traveling lefties, former major newspaper editors, Hollywoodites and other assorted racist “liberal progressives” and attacks Marco Rubio’s heritage:
CNBC and MSNBC contributor Donny Deutsch used racially charged language on Monday night, smearing Republican senatorial candidate Marco Rubio as a “coconut.” Deutsch appeared on HLN’s Joy Behar Show and used the word, which Urban Dictionary defines as a “person who is tan on the outside” and “white on the inside.” Rubio is the son of Cuban exiles.
It was only a matter of time.
Update: Deutsche responds, via Twitter:
UPDATE: 2010-02-23 18:20 Deutsch responded on his Twitter page: “I said ‘coconut’ meaning simple, goofy, bananas…wasn’t even aware it could be a racially charged word.”
Whew! I’m so glad he cleared that up for us! I really thought he was being demeaning. My bad.
Ño. I had never heard that term in my life…and given Donny Deutsch background in the advertising industry, these surprises me even more. Not that he said it, but that he said it in TV.
I say let the left and the msm go to town with their habits of categorizing people by color or sex. It is going to get old. It already has, I believe.
We must stick to issues and ideas. The more we let them make fools of themselves, the better we look as we keep serious and don’t talk about people as being of color, but as being of those with the best ideas.
Chico, and what about us who can’t tan? What the h are we?
These people don’t ever stop to think…wait, wait…never mind.
Elcubanito KC, I hear you; I’m in the same predicament. Maybe we are coco rallado?
Coquito en almíbar
Danny Deutsch is a casquito de guayaba and Joy Behar is a slice of queso crema.
I think of Joy Behar more like queso rancio.
Shouldn’t he have called him a “pina de coco” then?
Guys I know we are not supposed to laugh at this, it truly is no laughing matter that Marco got called a coconut. But seriously, the food analogies here must have everyone in my floor wondering what the heck I’m laughing so hard at.
Donny the rotten lemon said this on Joy the prune’s TV show.
Priceless.
And so it begins.
BTW, I think Marco could kick Donny’s ass 6 ways of Sunday.
Honestly, I don’t think I’d know my reaction if someone called me a “coconut”. Something tells me I’d laugh it off as incredibly stupid and leave it at that. I get the feeling Rubio will do the same. He seems pretty comfortable in his skin. As Honey wrote, let the fools on the far left make all the racist cracks they want. They’re going to look even worse come November.
I think Behar and Deutsch are the perfect pair to illustrate the old Cuban refrain:
“Quimbombó que resbala pa’ la yuca seca”
Think of it: the slime ball and the dry stick…
I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts
There they are all standing in a row
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head
Give them a twist a flick of the wrist
That’s what the showman said
I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts
Every ball you throw will make me rich
There stands my wife, the idol of me life
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
Roll a bowl a ball, roll a bowl a ball
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts (they’re lovely)
There they are all standing in a row (one, two, three, four)
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head (and bigger)
Never mind that Marco Rubio is probably more purely Caucasian than Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Oral Roberts, Johnny Depp, etc. etc….who all have Cherokee blood…
In fact, Rubio is probably more purely Caucasian than most members of the Ku Klux Klan! As U.S. southerners many have probably been “tarred” with the Native American (Choctaw, Cherokee) brush, like my wife!
Yes, a blond-blue-eyed Southern gal marries a greasy “Hispanic” and SHE’S the most NON-Caucasian!
PLEASE!!! I have no affiliation with Rubio whatsoever! These hateful racist ravings SHOULD NOT reflect upon him!
I still don’t get the whole “coconut” jab. First time I’ve heard it, and looking at Marco Rubio, the defenition posted: “brown on the outside, white on the inside”, makes less sense. It may be a jab at that fact that his parents are from the caribbean, which for some may be an insult. I was born in this country just like Mr. Rubio, and I’d consider that a compliment rather than an insult. Tha word spurs images in my head of beaches, the scent of suntan lotion, beautiful people, peacefulness, sun & fun, rythm in the blood and awesome mixtures of white, black, brown, yellow and all the colors in between. I’d rather be called a coconut than a cracker or a honky any day.
@ Lori G. – I’d rather be called a coconut than a cracker or a honky any day.
Hey! Hey!!! Hey— Um, wait a minute … I keep forgetting the line of Mongolian blood in me.
Never mind.
Carry on.
Lori, you are right that it doesn’t make any sense, Rubio is not brown, he’s white as anyone with two seeing eyes in his head can tell, but we live in such a twisted society that anyone who has a Spanish surname is not considered white, despite the whiteness of his skin and the purity of his heritage.
You see, in the USA, ethnicity is confused with race. Many people here–partly thanks to groups like MALDEF, National Council of La Raza, LULAC, comedians like George Lopez, etc..—who keep on hammering in that “Latinos” are a race of non-whites, have come to believe that all “latinos” are not white. They see someone like Rubio simply as a light skinned brown. No different than they would see a light skinned black. I.E. Beyonce who is fair is the same race as Wesley Snipes who is dark.
To them, because “latinos” are not white, it is the epitome of betrayal that a “latino” would think outside of the group.
Latinos are supposed to allow white liberals which is how Donny Deutsch sees himself to patronize them and tell them what to do and how to vote.
Rayarena, as far as I’m concerned those “white liberals” se van a coger el culo con la puerta conmigo. Not even my parents were able to patronize me, tell me what to do or tell me how to vote.
Come on guys simmer down, so someone called Marco a Cocnut and some say we live in a Banana Republic (I agree with the latter) big f****** deal. Political Correctness is a Liberal thang.
Now get your slurs right folks Mr. Deustch is no cracker or honky he’s a hook nose or a kike. (Am I a Hate Criminal now?)
As for Marco being called a coconut it just doesn’t sound as good as spic. try it Damn coconut! Damn SPIC! See….
It’s funny how some folks sometimes bad mouth Cubans to me, I ussually let them go for a bit and then breaK the news “yo soy Cubano.” HUH! The back tracking is fun to watch “oh my best friend is a Cuban.” I never figured der was red headed Cubans damn…
Whatever
The point here for me isn’t really about political correctness, it’s about liberals who get away with making stupid statements about ethnicity and race that they would be in an uproar over if it was made by a white conservative.
I wouldnt be too concerned about this…Rubio is well above this crap. Wait till the Mexican lobby goes after Rubio. They have lots of influence with Latin TV channels, newspapers and the MSM in general. As well as owning a good part of the RAT party.
Rubio can expect the same treatment asd Palin…especially from the Republican party elites.
I’m just going to be completely honest here, and admit my real frustrations with this “latino race” thing, and I think perhaps Humberto may understand my feelings best.
Many of us the offspring of first wave Cubans, descend completely from Spanish stock. (Put the politics aside fellas, I love la madre patria) In my case, my father was an Asturiano and my mother a Cuban of Andalucian origins. I was brought up with a totally white mind set, which doesn’t mean bigotry, just identification. It is obvious that since the RemierdaVolucion, Cuba’s ethnic and racial profile has changed enormously. No one has a problem with that, but when you read and hear endless diatribes about the latino race this and that, and when we are supposed to identify with every shade and inclination of latin americans from everywhere, all except other whites, it gets a bit tiring. When it becomes a hook for political stereotyping, it gets really, really old.
I have already read many quips about how Rubio is a “brown who doesn’t seem to know his place”. Well, call me a racist and I don’t give a flying pepino, but how the h—- is Marco supposed to act and identify? He can’t act, think, and manifest brown because he sure as heck isn’t!!! And what he absolutely can not do is to line up with the socialist, La Raza type BS! But that is just the type of abuse to which he and others of the same lineage are forced to endure.
Beyond just decrying the fact that he was called a racially charged term; coconut – I think it is every bit as racist and ignorant to deny people the right to just be whatever God created them to be, without having to make embarrassing apologies so as to not seem bigoted. Enough with this stupid nonsense!!
In today’s liberal America, being white has become a shameful crime, and despite what numerous genealogical studies may show about Spain, white Hispanics have even less of a right to call themselves white than any other group – horrors! That would mean less votes for the dems.
Yeah, we need to remind Marco that he is brown so that he can fit in more neatly with the expectations of the liberal left.
Hey, Deutsch: your spin is sputtering; watch it screech to a halt. See it explode. You biased useful idiot.
Robert Molleda nailed it.
It’s not the ethnic slur, it’s the double standard. If Rush called Bill Richardson a Beaner, the libs would never let it go.
Alley Kat, you hit the nail on the head! You’ve correctly expressed my frustrations and those of many Cubans.
How can Rubio think “brown” if he is white? Why isn’t he allowed to be what he is without apologizing or feeling guilty?
It’s the epitome of racism after all to tell someone what they are, to deny someone his heritage.
But then again, political correctness has so permeated the American psyche that despite his 100% Euro looks, Rubio is not white, but rather a coconut [brown on the outside].
I wonder what that makes Crist? Because Crist is darker and more ethnic looking than Rubio.
In fact, the irony of all of this is that Rubio is less ethnic looking [and therefore whiter] than Deutsch whom presumably sees himself as unquestionably white.
By the way, you know that “latino” groups like MALDEF, National Council of La Raza and LULAC [yes, those same groups that pretend to speak for all of us “latinos”] are not going to demand an apology. As Brio mentions, if Bill Richardson had been called a beaner, the libs [and let me add latino groups] would never let go.
In fact, me thinks that they would be asking for Deutsch’s resignation.
REay, it’s comforting that someone else understands my angle on this whole idiocy.
And no, of course all those groups of our “latino brothers and sisters” are not going to demand an apology. hey are more than happy with the hateful slur because 1) they hate Cubans 2)They agree with it 3) They wish they’d said it.
P.S. Crist, according to his bio, is of Greek descent, original surname being “Christodoulou”. To many American racial purists (?), Greeks are not white either.
To me, he’s just orange on the outside, red on the inside, whatever kinda fruit that is!
BTW, for those who may be interested, here’s a good link:

Sounds like Crist may be a Mamey.
Macaca! Macaca!
Ah, damn, guys! Got a nasty comment reply alert on this topic thread in my email box and was just about to respond to it by ripping said ass-clown a nice new wider ass hole … but you fellas, ever the gentlemen, took said ass-clown’s comment down …
*SIGH* … guess I’ll have to save it for another day …
If Rubio is indeed a coconut, may Florida be a big palm grove that produces a really excellent crop in 2010.
OK let’s have a coconut fund raising party!
