Marco Rubio and CPAC
As you know, Marco Rubio will be making the opening keynote address this year at CPAC and, thanks to you all, I will be traveling up to DC next Wednesday night to cover this historic event. (If you haven't had a chance to donate to help me defray the costs, you can do so right here.)
I will also have a few minutes with Marco for a short Q&A while at the convention and since you all are the trip sponsors, who better to ask the questions?
So, what do you want to know?

Thank you Val, for the very gentlemanly opportunity you extend to us in order to make our questions heard.
I think one of the most discouraging aspects of today's republican party is the large number of RINOS that have pushed over true conservatism.
ie; Bobby Jindal who was our darling for a while disappointed everyone when he delivered that anemic response after the inauguration. Scott Brown is taking the wind out of some sails in that he is spending less time taking care of the people in his state than expected, he also backs abortion (very important to some conservatives) and a few other details not important to mention for the purposes of this post.
More than a question, I want a pledge from him that he understands that those of us who are supporting him, are doing so with the great hopes that here is a genuine conservative that will uphold our values regardless of consequences.
Is he aware just how much his supporters are counting on him being the 'real deal', and how can we be assured he won't suddenly start going soft and go the way of Crist and others once victory is assured? How divorced is he from the hypocritical bunch who go along with the mainstream for personal gain and stab true conservatives in the back time and time again>
You know, being young, intelligent, good looking and one of ours is a thrill, but having a back bone and sticking to principle is what we really need here, way beyond the talking points.
Thanks Val, and God bless and protect you as you go.
Bobby Jindal did not make an anemic response. It wasn't in a glamorous setting and didn't have the pizazz of a presidential speech, but every word he said was correct and on point for our side.
Val this is what I want you to ask him:
There was an oft repeated story about him having snubbed a homosexual group and when being asked about it, he is quoted as saying something very derogatory about gays. Did this ever happen and what are the accusers of him talking about?
Also, I would like to know if he reads babalu and if he reads the hablaron.
Also I would like to know if he has read professor Eire's Cuba book.
And I would like the pledge that Alley Kat has asked for.
Please ask him specifically for what he intends to do about illegal immigration.
I'm sorry Honey if we disagree on this one. I have always liked Jindal and still do, but I do not think that I'm the only person who was disappointed in his response at the time. That doesn't mean I think he is a bona-fide RINO, I don't really know enough about him to make that kind of assertion. But I do know we are living in times when we need to have speakers who represent our fading values in season as well as out of season. That takes a special fortitude, and it is my fervent desire that Rubio has it. This is the best time to ascertain that he indeed does, and to let him know what those of us who are supporting him expect of him and why we are so hopeful for him. I want him to be better than Jindal! Fair enough?
As far as your questions, excellent. Thanks for bringing them up
I also want to know about that buzz Honey mentioned related to gays...
Contingency plan in case the healthcare rationing bill get passed? Will he support repealing it?
What about three specific ideas/plans to get rid of corruption in Washington, pork and voter fraud?
Id like to clear up one thing about the "clash" Honey mentioned. From what I have heard, it was not Rubio himself who allegedly snubbed a gay rights group. All accounts Ive read on the matter have indicated that the off the cuff remark allegedly came from a campaign worker.
Hi again Val, sorry to take up more space in your blog, but the thought of your opportunity to actually speak with Marco makes my little head spin. I feel it is so imperative that he know exactly how his supporters feel, and I really do hope to find out that he takes the time to read Babalu, as well as the comments section, as Honey pointed out.
Of course we are proud of Marco, ....awesome! But there's one thing that he as well as the rest of us have to have very clear deep in our psyches...and that is, that what we really aspire to see in him is a return to what makes the USA the greatest nation in the world. We see that like us, he gets it. Now, will he stay true to that? We all need to understand that we are backing a man based on his >ideologygenealogy<, otherwise, let's face it, we'd be no better than ACORN pushing in BerracO.. God forbid!
Hey Val, I hope to see you there! I may be partially to blame for the "rumors" pertaining to Rubio and the gays. At no time was Rubio personally implicated, just staffers. The "injured" party was Sunshine Republicans, a local chapter of GOProud. They are in Broward and I am on their mailing list although I haven't attended any events. I did tell GOProud I was going up independently of them. I have personally supported Rubio and have donated more to him than any other candidate in my life. We got a lot of the Gator crowd talking about him way back in September by carrying his bumper stickers and talking him up. But the incident dud happen. According to Sunshine Reps, the Rubio campaign used them to set up a big "show" of rejecting gay conservative support to appeal to the evangelical and fundamentalist Christians that are most opposed to gay equal rights. From Rubio's campaign, supposedly they weren't aware that Sunshine Reps were gay (PUH-LEEZ! LOL). As soon as they found out, they canceled. Too bad it was lime the day before the event.
So Val, ask him as a character question, which one is it? The 2 stories I've heard both scream that we're dealing with just another politician
But he sure can talk pretty...
Can anyone guess why Smith is also running for this nomination?
I am paranoid. My guess is that it is because certain handlers of his are from the RNC and want Crist to win and are taking advantage of Smith's resentment at what happened to him in New Hampshire and are urging him to run as a spoiler to draw votes away from Rubio and help Crist.
So far Smith has raised almost no money and has very few loud endorsements. I wish he would bow out on this one.
