Hunger For Change March in Los Angeles

Just got home from today’s march and a late dinner.  It was an incredible day, as thousands of Southern California Cubans and friends came out on a very hot day in support of The Ladies in White and the Cuban political prisoners.  I had the privilege of being involved, and a group of us manned the stand for Dr. Oscar Biscet.  We spoke with hundreds of people about Dr. Biscet and handed out flyers about him.  There was also a stand for Las Damas de Blanco and Orlando Zapata Tamayo.  The organizers created a sort of forest with photos of the political prisoner that I found especially moving:

The march was led by actor Andy Garcia, and also in attendance for the cause was Steven Bauer, Huber Matos,  Maria Conchita Alonso, Odalis Garcia, and Mario Armando Lavandeira, Jr., aka “Perez Hilton.”

Babalu friends and fellow bloggers were there as well.  The entire My Big Fat Cuban Family clan, including one very special 96 year oldHenry Agueros was busy spreading the message of freedom for Cuba, Joe Lima was busy video taping, Zelde was there, and I was finally able to meet LA area bloggers Zurama from Sunrise in Havana, and Mario from Perez Hilton.

Missing in action (at least so far) was the LA Times, but this is what the Miami Herald reports:

  1. Absolutely an amazing day for liberty!
My favorite moment was when Comandante Huber Matos took the stage. I just got chills when he said, “El mundo entero esta escuchando.” “The whole world is listening.”

BTW, I’m smrtqbn on youtube. (Wait! Did I just out myself? =D)

Eric shot that great video. He was so enthralled with all the beautiful, passionate Cubans dressed in white and carrying flags and flowers.

    Again, a beautiful, beautiful day.

  2. Yes, you just outted yourself, and I thought I was so clever hiding it! The downside of working the event was that I missed the speeches. I wish the stands hadn’t been so far way from the stage. Thankfully, there is video!

  3. It was an amazing experience and my girls learned they have new found love for the land their mom and grandparents talk aobut every Sunday during dinner.Viva Cuba Libre!!
