The George W. Bush Institute Conference on Human Rights and Cyber Dissidence
The panelists and speakers have taken the stage for a quick introduction just now. I've had the honor and privilege of having spent almost two entire days with these human rights cyber activists and can tell you all in no uncertain terms that these young men are dedicated and steadfast and in all cases courageous in their work to right the wrongs of the governments of their respective countries.
There are cyber dissidents from Venezuela, Syria, Iran, Colombia, North Korea and other countries whose people are currently under duress by their governments.

The organizers had planned to have Yoani Sanchez participate via telephone, but the regime has blocked all attempts to contact her. You need look no further for proof that information is the enemy of all tyrannies.
Update: The former President and First Lady are about to take the stage and officially open the conference. It's a pretty big and diverse crowd. looking forward to the rest of the day's events.
Update: "I believe in the universality of freedom." George. W. Bush.
"Cannot allow isolationism to become our predominant philosophy."
Four principles of the George W. Bush Institute" Freedom, Opportunity, Responsibility, Compassion."

Fantastic, Val. Please keep us posted.
Bush caused so much damage during his presidency I'm surprised has the nerve to do something like this. I see he has learned nothing. The experiment of bringing "democracy" to the near east at the point of a gun has been repudiated by the American People. I'm sure Bush now wishes he could send American boys into harm's way in Iran. Bush committed a naked act of agression by attacking Iraq. He may have to answer for it sometime in the future.
Prepare for the Kool-Aid drinkers, folks...
George,
The way we're going these days we should open a kool-aid business and sell it by the gallons.
I'm sure that we'll make millions...LOL
It was a worthy cause going into Iraq. We now have an ally in the area to add to Israel. A neighbor of Iran is not in cahoots with Iran. They may flirt with cooperation, but the Iranian people want to live in peace, not in pieces and the day will come when the world will thank Bush for his courage and consistency in Iraq in the face of such opposition here.
The damage Bush did was to the Republican brand not to this country or to freedom the world over.
Where is 65alejo's anger at Obama for his efforts in Afghanistan, where because of the rules of combat of this administration, the death toll for American servicemen is much higher than it was under Bush?
I hate selective indignation.
Sadaam Hussein was a secular nationalist and an enemy of Islamic extremism. He could have been a potential ally but Bush deposed him in the pursuit of neocon hobgoblins. As for Afganistan, Bush started the war and Obama could destroy his presidency by continuing it. The only acceptable US troop level in Afganistan is zero. Faustian bargains and alliances have always been a feature of international affairs. To defeat Hitler we had to embrace Stalin. Millions of American lives were saved because the red army tied down the bulk of the Whermacht . During the cold war we supported various dictators, that's the world as it is and you don't make war on a country because you don't like the regieme in power. This is what Bush did in Iraq.
Kool-Aid anyone?
By the tank full Freedom, facts are illusive if your brain is full of shit.
Ziva, we should go into the mental septic tank cleaning business. Alejo would be our first customer.
Ziva,
Alejo needs his mental septic tank cleaned.
Alejo, that didn't make Stalin any less of a mass murderer. I wish we would have followed Patton's advice in 1945...
Afloja with the Kool-aid asere.
How many gallons for you Eddy?
What does asere mean?
[...] was busy hosting an International Cyber Dissidents Conference on Monday on Monday, April 19, 2010. Val Prieto was there. Comments [...]
Honey,
asere is a Cuban slang word (little trashy though) used for friend.
I don't know if it was used much during pre-Castro days (older contributors please verify) but it became quite popular in the island ever since.
Freedom,
I CRINGE everytime I hear that "asere" BS...
and, NO!!! It was not used during pre-Castro days, in fact, I would say it's a fairly recent piece of s...lang.
I miss the days of "caballeros" and "mi socio"...
Thanks Alley Kat,
That asere word definitely sounds chusma (low class) to me.
But I needed verification from others if it was used in the older days (I suspected it wasn't).
What is afloja?
I am surmising that he is not complimenting my thought.
