A false and fabricated image of Cuba

A false and fabricated image of Cuba

August 17, 2010

What is happening in Cuba? For the world there is the Castro regime liberating its prisoners. For the world there is the Cuban government and the Catholic Church engaging in dialogue in order to better the human rights situation in Cuba.

But what is really happening?

On the 16th of this month, young activists stood at the steps of the University of Havana and called on the Cuban people to take to the streets and demand liberty, democracy, and respect for human rights. At this moment their fate is now unknown. These young people took part in an act organized by the National Front of Civic Resistance and Civil Disobedience Orlando Zapata Tamayo that is unprecedented in the past few years; they went there in a peaceful and direct way to tell all of Cuba, and the world, that we are all the resistance, and that rights are claimed and demanded in the streets.

Sara Martha Fonseca of the Rosa Parks Feminist Movement and the Pro-Human Rights Party of Cuba, Eduardo Perez Flores, Yordanis Martinez Carvajal, and Michel Rodriguez Ruiz, of the Political Prison Pedro Luis Boitel Movement, these activists, along with others whose identities cannot be revealed, have disappeared and we fear for their safety and their lives. This action against us, however, is in vain because the campaign for resistance is stronger and more alive than ever.

We expect the democratic governments throughout the world and the international organizations who claim to defend human rights will confront the Castro tyranny to liberate and save the lives of these members of the national front. We expect that the government of Mr. Barack Obama will finally make a clear and concise statement in support of these protests.

What does Moratinos say? What does Cardinal Jaime Ortega say? What does the Spanish Foreign Ministry say?

The eventual liberation of Cuba is very certain, but it will not be because of the acts of these individuals. Liberty will come to Cuba as a result of actions like the protest on the steps of the University of Havana. It will come from the efforts of our brothers in the movement. Change will come from those that are on the streets struggling and identifying with the people, with the average Cuban.

Liberty will come to Cuba when Cubans both inside and outside of Cuba come to the realization that the situation within Cuba is in the hands of Cubans. And until we are prepared to make sacrifices, and we stop giving priority to business and financial issues, liberty will not come to Cuba.

From Placetas, in the center of Cuba for Babalú Blog, this is Jorge Luis Garcia Perez Antúnez, an ex-political prisoner who will not be silenced, and who will not leave Cuba.

    Chills and tears.

What an incredible privilege and honor it is to have this Cuban hero be part of the Babalu family.

  • Mr. Mojito

    Welcome PLANTADO !!!

  • Other sites feature Dissidents--Babalu features Opponents.

Calling all Cuba-Experts!...Calling all Cuba-Experts!....here's a Cuban on the very front lines of the Battle, having suffered--according to my cheap calculator--about 35,000 per cent more time in Castro's prisons than most dissidents. Babalu certainly welcomes and anxiously awaits your numerous requests for interview with him...line forms to the rear....we'll be with you in just a moment

"Liberty will come to Cuba when Cubans both inside and outside of Cuba come to the realization that the situation within Cuba is in the hands of Cubans. And until we are prepared to make sacrifices, and we stop giving priority to business and financial issues, liberty will not come to Cuba."

I hope you all dissected this last paragraph, for it is nothing less than the absolute truth. We are hearing this from the very crux of the opposition movement in Cuba. From a man who has endured the iron-fist of tyranny. He has tasted what us Cuban-Americans have not had to taste - at least not to that demoralizing degree. And that taste will forever remain in his mouth. He is a man of great sacrifce and convictions and resolution - un hombre con gran cojones. And what can we all infer from Antunez's last remarks? There must be:

NO MORE EXCUSES FOR THE CUBAN PEOPLE BY THE CUBAN PEOPLE ON/OFF THE ISLAND! WE MUST STOP LYING TO OURSELVES ABOUT THE CUBAN RACE. COUNTER-REVOLUTION MUST EMERGE. AND THERE WILL BE MARTRYS - MEN OF ANTUNEZ'S KIND - FOR THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WAR HAPPENS. PUT ALL ASIDE AND FIGHT FOR FREEDOM - FOR IT TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER ALL AND SUNDRY AND WILL NOT BE GRANTED TO YOU WITHOUT A FIGHT. IT WILL NOT BE A HAPPY STORY - BUT IT WILL VERY WELL HAVE A HAPPY ENDING.

Now if only the majority of the Cuban masses would consume Antunez's anti-castro rhetoric and follow suit. But for 50-years the majority of the masses have proven antithetical to such denouncements - showing reverence (fear and adoration) for their king. Like a bitch and her pimp. I understand that this man is asking for a lot. But it is a lot that must be given to triumph over el gran tyrano. And guess what? - the Cuban people have done it before. Let us not forget good ole Batista. So why in hell can't we do it again?

  • Bienvenido Antunez, I am humbled and honored to have you here with us. Dios te bendiga y Viva Cuba Libre!

Bienvenido coterraneo a la familia Babalu. Welcome to the Babalu family.

God Bless Jorge Luis Garcia Perez Antúnez! A very brave person and a true Cuban patriot.

If Sr. Antunez can read this, I have a simple message for him, and others in the resistance movement in Cuba fighting against the dictatorship...

Will you and others, simply say, and repeat this in EVERY DECLARATION, EVERY STATEMENT, and SPEECH that you all partake in...AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN... until the whole world hears it unmercifully!

"Cardenal Ortega, will you and the Catholic Church support my rights to speak freely in my own country!!!"

"Cardenal Ortega, will you and the Catholic Church support my rights to speak freely in my own country!!!"

    Muchisimas gracias Antunez...por todo.

Exactly CDonate43! Im with you 100%. And Im very well mentally prepared to join in any military movement happening. We should have taken back our country a looong time ago. And I think its about time for counter-revolution. This terible government has been in power alot longer than Cuba has even been its own free country. And it wont fall on its own. Atleast I dont think so. We can tell people that the only thing keeping the government going is U.S. dollars. To not send money, dont vacation, dont do whatever helps the government. But they still do. And its never gonna fall on its own. We cant just hope it falls on its own. We have to take it back.

    Viva Antunez!!! Viva Cuba Libre!!!

  • Mr. Mojito

The Castro's are going to have to be taken out ... the same way they came in.

These two comemierda's might live to be 100 ... and there is no way Cuba can handle another 20 years of these vampires.
