The not-so-funny joke

The race promoter who was under the impression his humor was too advanced for Cuban Americans has come to the conclusion that his joke was not so funny. It seems that although celebrating a mass murderer in a town filled with the families of his victims seemed like a hilarious joke to Jay Lamm, he has now changed his mind.

che_logo_536755kCarlos Frias at the Palm Beach Post, who has been on top of this story, has the news that the "24 Hours of LeMons" to be held at the Palm Beach International Raceway in December has dropped Che Guevara has its official pitchman and mascot.

Race drops image of Che Guevara for end-of-year event parody

By Carlos Frias

Che Guevara, as it turns out, isn't much of a pitchman in South Florida.

The 24 Hours of LeMons car race is dropping the image of the guerilla fighter from its logo and changing the title of its end-of-the-year event at Palm Beach International Raceway after a groundswell of protest from local fans and drivers.

What started out as a parody quickly became a public relations nightmare for the organizers of the LeMons, a race where drivers fix up junk cars for less than $500 and try to keep them running for a 24-hour endurance event.
