BREAKING NEWS: Cuba becomes charity case
Just heard through informed sources that the State Department will announce changes to US/Cuba Policy at 4pm today.
The US will now allow remittances up to $500 to Cuba from any and all Americans and not just Cuban-Americans or Cuban "exiles."
Essentially, the island of Cuba has just become a charity case and Americans will now be funding the continued oppression of 11 million inhabitants.
I've yet to get official confirmation yet, but stay tuned...
Update: Still no confirmation, but I'm sure it's the usual suspects here in the US who are behind the move. Notice, also, how the announcement is scheduled for the slowest news cycle day and hour of the week, a Friday afternoon.
Update: If the announcement comes, it will come at the heels of State Department officials visiting Cuba for "migration" talks. It may also - and Im just speculating here - be a trade off for the release of Alan Gross. We probably will never know for sure, but as usual, with a liberal administration in power, the regime will get the better end of the deal and of course, the Cuban people get the shaft.
Update (Alberto):
The Miami Herald,as well as other sources, have confirmed our report that the Obama administration is easing restrictions against the Castro regime. The Herald story comes complete with this bizarre statement from a White House official:
``We see these changes, in combination with the continuation of the embargo, as a way to enhance civil society in Cuba,'' the administration official said, adding that increased contact between Cubans and Americans could ``support the independence of the Cuban people, making them less dependent on the Cuban state and on Cuban authorities.''
It is puzzling to hear that both weakening the embargo and maintaining the embargo works together to enhance civil society in Cuba. Only in the Obama White House does bizarre logic such as this exist.

If Gross gets released then its a win win for Cuba and the left.
They allow money in, Gross gets released for a price.
Basically ransom is paid in order to be allowed to send money to Cuba. How unbelievable!
One bright spot would be that the 5 dogs don't get released, at least yet. I have a hunch the remaining dissidents release will be obtained by freeing the 5 dogs. Sum total? Obama does everything he wanted in the name of "compassion".
Update and Val is spot on....

Obama expands tourist...er...um... religious groups.
Except that they fail to mention how much more Cuba will make from these fake groups and as a bonus they have to do it with religious visas which the Cuban Catholic Church as well as the Convention system sells.
Obama says that this will promote freedom and does not take away the embatgo.
It only neuters it more.
The on-line version of the newspaper from Spain, elmundo.es, is confirming this as well. In addition to the removal of limits for remittances and who can send them, they are increasing the amount of flights to/from Cuba and are increasing the number of USA airports from where these additional flights can operate. Just what the Cagalitraso and Raulina were praying for. Tremenda mierda!!
Maybe this wll teach those remaining Cubans in South Forida with Obama bumper stickers ... a hard lesson.
Then again, those nangaras are probably happy about it.
