Egypt: “It’s A Cookbook!”

Israel-Crosshairs-lge

Please pardon my hysteria ... The only 'face' in the crowd of Mubarak opposition (whom Krauthammer deems a 'useful idiot') that is being dangled as a possible next leader of Egypt ...

Mohamed ElBaradei, one of the key leaders of Egypt's protest movement, has brought his country's peace treaty with Israel into doubt in an interview with Der Spiegel.

From the Der Spiegel Interview:

SPIEGEL: Are you now saying that a government that included participation by the Muslim Brotherhood would continue on with Mubarak's policies toward Israel?

ElBaradei: No. Something the Israelis also need to grasp is that it's impossible to make peace with a single man. At the moment, they have a peace treaty with Mubarak, but not one with the Egyptian people. The Israelis should understand that it is in their long-term interest to have a democratic Egypt as a neighbor, and that it is prudent to acknowledge the legitimate interests of the Palestinians and to grant them their own state. [...]

Almost sounds like, I don't know, blackmail or extortion.

We would hope the Egyptian people are truly eager for self-governing, but in all reality things such as Sharia are being promoted right now in the busy streets of revolution ... and then there's that nagging Israeli problem:

So, can we just stop wearing everyone else's rose-colored glasses here? I mean, if you want to throw a wrench into people looking realistically into this just claim they're not in favor of democracy. A healthy pensive concern and suspicion is not uncalled for here when there are those that swear Cuba, Venezuela, Iran and others are 'democracies' when the evidence is quite the contrary. You see, the problem with crocodiles and alligators is most people can't tell them apart ... but they both eat you just the same.

This exactly what the American press is missing. Liberal American and others are calling for the resignation of Mubarak now, immediately, are not looking at the big picture. The position of the nation of Israel will be even more precarious.
