Castro dictatorship arrests 17 dissidents

The wave of repression continues to take its toll on the opposition in Cuba as Radio Martí reports that 17 dissidents were arrested by the Castro dictatorship.

My translation:

Guillermo Fariñas, Librado Linares  and 15 other opposition members arrested

The opposition members were arrested as they peacefully marched towards the headquarters of State Security in Santa Clara

On Friday, repressive Cuban forces in Santa Clara arrested the 2010 Sakharov prize winner Guillermo Fariñas and the former political prisoner from the Group of 75 Librado Linares.

A report from the activist Frank Reyes Lopez indicates that after the arrest in Santa Clara of the opposition member Idania Yanes Contreras, on Thursday a group of activists initiated a protest march, which resulted in their arrest.

Reyes Lopez explained that among those arrested -- 17 in total -- the 2010 Sakharov prize winner Guillermo Fariñas, and the former prisoner of conscience from the Group of 75 Librado Linares were included.

The information was corroborated by the well known opposition member and former political prisoner Martha Beatriz Roque Cabelllo in Havana.
