Babalú at Cuba Nostalgia – Come See Alberto Bleed

web-banner-babalu-2011

Between today and tomorrow, we have to set up the Babalu structure at Cuba Nostalgia. Ordinarily, since the frame only consists of 8 pieces and requires just 16 bolts, this should take about ten minutes. However, this time estimate is based on two people who know the difference between an open end wrench and a ratchet with a 7/16 socket and who are capable of using either - or both - dexterously. So, for us, given that usually there's only one of us there who can actually use tools, it takes over an hour.

Of course, we have to add at least another hour or so for injury time-outs. Real tools can be dangerous, if not properly wielded. Alberto can attest to this, as he suffered a major, debilitating wound last year as you can see from the following photo:

This year, it will once again most likely be Alberto and I who erect the structure and, hopefully, we'll be able to cut down on the amount of time it takes us. However, as a precaution, I will have paramedics standing by, and I've taken the liberty of purchasing the proper tools for my co-builder:

With Alberto armed with the above, we should be done with the build by around 3 AM tomorrow, if we begin today at around 5 PM. Of course, this doesnt take into account time spent on clean-up. Blood tends to stain.
