That says much about the difference between tribal and Stalinist dictatorships. Find me some independent millionaires in Cuba? None exist, of course. The Castros are very vigilant in these matters. All these recent "corruption" sackings are simply the latest manifestation of this vigilance. And have you seen lately how many Libyans own (or have access to) weapons, modern vehicles, cameras, cell phones, computers, etc.?

How many have access to such things in Cuba?....please.

In brief, human history records no "control-freaks" that even approach Communists. Nothing controls and oppresses like Communism. As if we need a reminder: The Castro brothers and their closest cohorts lived into their young adulthood under a robustly capitalist Cuba, where Cuba's unionized laborers earned the 8th highest industrial wages on earth, where Cuba had a higher per-capita income than Austria and Japan, and where Cuba was swamped with European immigrants.

Under these conditions, Cuba's current rulers had achieved nothing. Honesty, hard work, property rights and the rule of law repel them. To think they'd voluntarily revert to a system that rewards such traits and institutions is ludicrous.

In 1959, they could have easily left most of Cuba's economy in place, made it obedient to their whims, and been versions of Peron, Franco, Mussolini, Assad or Gaddafi. They could have grabbed half of the economy and been Titos. They could have demanded a piece of the action from all involved and mimicked Marcos or Mobutu. But this wasn't enough for them. They had a golden goose land in their lap -- and they quickly and deliberately strangled it.
