Dr. Carlos Eire to speak in Orlando April 3rd

For our Babalú readers in and around Orlando, FL, you have a great treat coming your way on April 3rd, 2012. Our good friend, Yale professor and Babalú contributing writer, Dr. Carlos Eire, will be appearing and speaking at the Artist & Authors Series event at the Orange County History Center:

History center: Author Carlos Eire to speak

Writer Carlos Eire will be the guest speaker at the Artists & Authors Series event at the Orange County Regional History Center on April 3.

Eire will share the story of his exodus from Cuba  through Operation Pedro Pan, which airlifted 14,000 children to Miami in the early 1960s. He was 11 years old. His memoir “Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy” won the National Book Award for nonfiction in 2003. He is now a profession at Yale University.

He will be introduced at the history center by former U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez, who is also a Pedro Pan child.

The Artists & Authors event begins with a 6:30 p.m. reception, followed by dinner, Eire’s program and a book signing. Tickets are $50 per person or $360 for a table of eight. (Historical Society members pay  $40 or $280, respectively.)

For more information, go to www.thehistorycenter.org or call 407-836-7010.
