Online Petition Launched to Request His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Help Free Alan Gross

/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington has launched a nationwide online petition drive to garner thousands of signatures for the goal of securing the release of Alan Gross from Cuban prison on humanitarian grounds. The petition humbly appeals to Pope Benedict XVI to take the necessary efforts to obtain Alan Gross' release during his upcoming visit to Cuba on March 26-28, 2012.  The petition is located at: freealangrossnow.com.

    That petition should include freedom for all Cubans in the island but I guess that's too much to ask his holiness.

    It’s fine for the pope to intercede, but freeing Gross is squarely Obama’s job and responsibility. Anybody who wants Gross freed should be very clear about that and act accordingly. The pope’s trip to Cuba has nothing to do with Gross, after all, and it’ll be a miracle if he accomplishes anything substantial in terms of helping the Cuban people, who ARE (presumably) the reason he’s going to Cuba.
