The Cuban embargo and the lies of ‘Cuba Experts’

According to "Cuba Experts," the U.S. embargo on the Castro dictatorship does nothing to harm the Cuban regime and instead hurts the Cuban people. Surprisingly, this is a widely accepted claim in spite of the fact that nothing could be further from the truth. U.S. sanctions against the Castro dictatorship were carefully designed and are implemented in a fashion that exacts extreme penalties on the criminal Cuban government while providing as much aid and support as possible to the Cuban people.

This is not an opinion, it is a statement of fact: The U.S. exports hundreds of millions of dollars worth of food and medical supplies to communist Cuba every single year. Unfortunately, there is little the U.S. can do to ensure this American food, medicine, and medical supplies reaches the Cuban people once it arrives in Cuban ports. Under current conditions on the island, it is the Castro regime that is in charge of that, and lamentably, it is they who have initiated and maintained a "blockade" on the Cuban people for the past five decades. While the Castro dictatorship is in power, the Cuban people will continue to live hungry and sickly lives in utter misery no matter how much food and medicine we ship to Cuba.

Nonetheless, the "Cuba Experts" continue parroting the Castro dictatorship's lies. That is, after all, their job, to promote and defend the interests of a brutal and murderous totalitarian regime. Day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year, they put aside any semblance of morality and decency and mount the best defense they can muster for the indefensible. It is not an easy task, and one for which I am sure they are paid handsomely.

So, when news articles such as this one come out, the "Cuba Experts" scurry into the cracks and crevices to hide. Cowards.

Feb 22 (Reuters) - U.S. agricultural exports to Cuba declined 6 percent last year on top of a 31 percent decline in 2010 as the Communist-led island's financial woes continued and it turned elsewhere to buy food, a trade group said on Wednesday.

Cuba, which imports most of its food, gets chicken, corn, soy, wheat, pork and other products from the United States.

Cuba's food imports topped $1.5 billion in 2011, the government has reported.

U.S. sales to Cuba have dropped by just over 50 percent since hitting a peak of $710 million in 2008, the New York-based U.S.-Cuba Trade and Economic Council said in a report.

The trade council said the reasons for the decline were largely economic and not political and included Cuba's lack of foreign currency and better financial terms being offered by a host of countries from Canada, Brazil and Vietnam to Russia and France.
