Cuba on Google Earth: What must they think of us?

Our friends at Guamá have assembled a few photographs of Cuba that appear on Google Earth and ask a very pertinent question: "What must they think of us at Google Earth?"

They think it’s a crumbling, failed third-world country, which is true, even though it was once ahead of nearly all “Latin” countries and even some European ones. Of course, the “revolution” is not to blame. In return for material and moral misery and complete lack of freedom, it gives Cubans "free" lifelong indoctrination and "free" third-world type medical care (unless one’s a VIP or otherwise well-connected). It’s a great deal, as people like Michael Moore, Sean Penn, and similar downtrodden and underprivileged proletarian types will attest. I mean, it’s not as if glorified zoo animals or utopian surrogates deserve any more. The real problem, you see, is that pre-Castro Cuba did too well and got too far ahead, which gave rise to certain uppity Chihuahuaesque notions that persist to this day among "those people." Just ask the Miami Herald.

But, one must admit that picturesque and politically correct decay hardly gets better than this. Cue the travel agencies.

And remember: See Cuba before it's ruined by democracy and free enterprise!
