Cuba Nostalgia 2012 is here! Today is the first day of a weekend of fun and Cubania. Here is what we have in store for you this year:
The lovely Viviam Maria, host of Cubaneando on WDNA (listen live here every Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 pm) will be on hand Saturday and Sunday spinning some Cuban classics at the Babalú pavilion.
On Saturday night, the talented Cuban American musical group, Ma’Duro, will be on hand to play some of their awesome music.
Books & Authors
Brian Latell will be at the Babalú pavilion signing copies of his marvelous new book, Castro’s Secrets: The C.I.A. and Cuba’s Intelligence Machine, on Saturday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and Sunday 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. If you still do not have a copy, you can purchase one at our booth courtesy of our friends at Books & Books in Coral Gables.
Carlos Frias will be joining us on Sunday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm to sign copies of his great book, Take Me with You: A Secret Search for Family in a Forbidden Cuba. Copies of his book will be available for purchase at our booth.
Thanks to the generosity of our good friend and professor, Dr. Antonio Rafael de la Cova, we will have available his extensive historical account about the Moncada Barracks attack, The Moncada Attack: Birth of the Cuban Revolution, for the bargain price of $25.00! Dr. de la Cova’s masterful historical tome is a $60.00 book, but through the professor’s generosity, we can offer it during Cuba Nostalgia 2012 exclusively at the Babalú pavilion for the unbelievably low price of only $25.00. Make sure and come by for your copy.
Thanks to the generosity of another author, Cuban historian Manuel Marquez-Sterling, his excellent historical tome, Cuba 1952-1959: The True Story of Castro’s Rise to Power, a $30.00 book, will be available exclusively at the Babalú pavilion for only $15.00!
Fun & Games
You have seen him in the Miami Herald and several other publications: The incredibly talented and hilarious political cartoonist, Garrincha, will be joining us this weekend displaying his unique work. You can follow him on his blog HERE or his official website HERE
Painter Cesar Santalo, the artist who designed this year’s Cuba Nostalgia poster, has donated a one-of-a-kind cigar box hand painted by Cesar himself. We will be raffling off the beautiful cigar box so make sure you stop by the Babalú pavilion and buy some raffle tickets!
All of these preparations take an exceptional amount of time and a lot of money to make happen. We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of you who have donated to the campaign and we truly appreciate your support. However, the Babalú rooster continues to crow for his freedom, so come on guys, suelta el gallo! Even a little bit helps, so go ahead and click on the donate button below and help us defray the mounting costs associated with putting together this event. Thank you!
