Vatican Launches New Program: Medals for Tyrants and Their Lackeys

Very bad news from Diario de Cuba

Pope Benedict XVI has awarded the Grand Cross of the Knights of the Order of Piana to Eduardo Delgado, ambassador of the Castro regime to the Vatican.

The Director of Protocol of the Vatican’s Sate Department, monsignor Nwachukwu Fortunatus, said in his official announcement that this honor bestowed on Delgado  –the highest distinction that can be awarded to a layman – was a concrete gesture that recognized the bilateral connections between the Vatican and Cuba.

Fortunatus said to the Cuban Diplomat: “You should appreciate this as a high honor, and to manifest this, Tarcisio Bertone, the Secretary of State for the Holy See, has asked me to present this medal in a simple, yet very important ceremony.”

Delgado responded by affirming that he accepted this honor as “an expression of the high level of relations between the Holy See and our country, our government, and the Cuban people.”

  1. For those Cubans who still insist on giving the Pope, the Vatican and the Catholic Church the benefit of the doubt because they’re being, er, uh, confused by Jaime Ortega, but really want what’s best for us, what planet on you folks living on?

With the likes of the papal visit, Wenski’s insults and slights and the Vatican’s medals to castroite lackeys, its abundantly clear that the Church has not only drawn the line, but declared outright war on those of us struggling to free Cuba.

The Catholic Church is no friend of Cubans.

  2. By this point, there’s no need for Valladares to address the Vatican-Cuba problem, which is painfully self-evident. The Vatican seems remarkably unconcerned, to the point that it’s barely even trying to keep up appearances, suggesting it has decided the only people it really needs to accommodate are the members of the Castro regime. Tit-for-tat. Cubans are apparently deemed incapable of ever freeing themselves, so no need to bother with anybody except those in charge; ordinary Cubans will “come around” one way or another, especially if the RCC gets more room to maneuver from Castro, Inc.

This explains the openly, even blatantly unseemly, insensitive and insulting conduct repeatedly practiced by the likes of Ortega, Bertone and Pope Benedict himself, not to mention lesser players like Wenski. They simply cannot be so dim and dense as to be unaware they’re being offensive, but the point is such offense is considered acceptable collateral damage in order to advance their agenda. In other words, the end justifies the means, and as long as the agenda advances and the cost doesn’t appear too high, they’re not likely to change much. Yes, they are duty-bound to observe considerably higher standards, but Cuban Catholics also bear responsibility for holding them accountable.
